Genndy likes cool action but he also like dick jokes and his ability to make dick jokes has been historically limited by his want for good animation which companies generally have not given to the kind of shows that make dick jokes for as long as Genndy has had any authority in the industry.

I can see how this would be Genndy's passion project, kinda. Like during the era of 2 Stupid Dogs where you just really want to make a super crude cartoon and laugh with your colleagues about the dirtiest stuff ever, but there's no room for it. So you sit there thinking "I wanna use these goofy designs and go crazy" and then 30 years later you didn't drop it for some reason and now it's entirely out of place, both the design ethic and the tired crude comedy. I wouldn't really care if it wasn't for the fact shit barely gets made these days, and this is what Genndy used his noteriety for. Let alone a hand-drawn budget being used for this.

This could've existed as one of those random semi-obscure adult animations decades ago but I guess Genndy just never got the chance and it forever nagged at him while he trainwrecked other passion projects/childhood dreams in his other cartoons.

I noticed the tween look too. Could it be the designs and cartoonish animation? Or with most digital animation is you can get everything looking perfect, perfect inbetweens, perfectly clean outlines, etc. It takes a lot of character away from the animation. And looking at the trailer for fixed it seems like theres a lack of snappiness when needed, every piece of animation has a bunch of inbetweens to slow down the actions.

It's so funny, because when you think "vanity project", you'd expect an animator to go for something big. Something flashy, experimental and ambitious. But Genndy's been doing that exact kind of shit for his whole career. So when finally given the chance to do make a vanity project, he goes the exact opposite direction and makes something that Seth Rogen would come up with.

I can respect the attempt to step out of his comfort zone. If nothing else he's willing to keep himself on his toes.
