It's such a harmless goofy cartoon like how can you think this is the worst thing ever and get pissed off by it? As an older Zoomer I remember just thinking it was a throwaway educational cartoon when I saw it in reruns plus the girls are cute.

Who the fuck do you think watched that show as kids? Not one fucking person even talks about it. The only times I have seen it brought up are those millennials living rent free in your undeveloped brain going, "yeah this was prescient" as a quick comment on something atrocious that happened in the news.

It's not enough that boomers spent decades writing bullshit articles about how millennials are snowflakes and killing the [everything] industry but now zoomers are constantly sniping at them out of some kind of misplaced jealousy. Do you know what millennials are? Broke and depressed. And you can't stop trying to bash on them. If you can't find something to be mad about you make something up.

Shut the fuck up zoomer.

Because it's a waste of the potential that cartoons had, and completely condescending to the intelligence of children. But above all it's essentially propaganda.

Cartoons should be made for entertainment reasons only and depict stories that are not excessively childish.

Geezeranon here. This is because of Ted Turner and the soccer mom coalition of that era fucking up all the shit we liked. This was his chick tract. His preachy, sanctimonious product from the same minds that insisted on educational content on every channel.

Also keep in mind that it came out on linear tv, and you don't have unlimited options to watch. A show taken by Uncle Ted means one less show you wanted.

Pic related. Ted Turner himself went in front of congress to demand THEY put rules on the channel HE owned.

If you watched it as a kid, you’d get it. Mainly cause the show was far more preachy than other action cartoons at the time, they tried for that big brother/paternal energy with Captain Planet’s personality and instead got “corny superhero pastiche”, and he kept getting dogged by the silliest things such as trash and “hate”.

But as a (hopefully) adult, you have the benefit of hindsight, and so do I. Yeah, Captain Planet was goofy as fuck and it’s fun as hell to dog on it when the writing gets a bit much, but Captain himself wasn’t the worst hero around since he did have legitimately cool powers, the creators had a huge benefit in that the villains were over the top but at least doing things that caused damage that reflected environmental disasters and issues irl that kids could actually see and grasp, and I genuinely didn’t have an issue with Gaia or the Planeteers. Yes, even Ma’ti, who everyone dogs on for having the “worst power” had the right personality for the power of super empathy/mind reading. And the villains were memorable too.

So yeah, OP, it was petty, and more that you kind of had to be there to really get it. But I will readily concede that in hindsight it wasn’t really any cheesier than a fair few of the other action toons of the time, and I always enjoyed the theme song and ending.

He-Man was huge with kids born around 1980. Almost 3 million households watched it, at a time before streaming when families had one TV in the living room.
It can be hard to explain why. Sword and Sorcery was at the peak of its popularity in 1982, but there had been a couple of barbarian cartoons non-violent enough to meet BS&P for cartoons before He-Man, like Thundarr (which Jack Kirby drew) that didn't succeed like He-Man.
As for its rapid fall from popularity, I suspect the boys discovered the original violent S&S as they aged and the girls... just grew up. You don't even hear much of She-Ra collectors, the way adult fashion doll collectors are a thing.

Correct. It was incredibly popular, but only with a very narrow age range. Older kids really weren't as into it. It also was part of the "30 min toy commercial" revolution.

They aged out to other action toys/shows. Transformers. GI joe. TMNT. Quite a few did go on to the Conan sequels and D+D though.

Girls went to Barbie and Jem. Truly outragous.

>"indoctrination"
Indoctrination is the process by which doctrine is taught. It is most commonly done to children as they grow up, by parents, teachers, and other authority figures instructing children on how to live and what to care about. With the availability of mass video media, it has in recent decades been somewhat handed off to TV, where children watch hours of content each day that presents them with its own views of how to live and what to care about.

And to head off another scare word, propaganda is communication intended to influence the opinions of a mass audience. Most advertising is propaganda, even if it just mentions a sale. Captain Planet is obviously propaganda intended to indoctrinate children to care about environmental issues. Whether that's good or bad is an entirely separate issue.

You're delusional if you don't understand all our media is propaganda first and entertainment second. Consoom, breed, wageslave, shop, buy life insurance, die. Even those shitty romcoms in the 90s were indoctrinating women to settle for mediocre chubby balding guys.

Honestly no one wants to hear this but the best way to save the planet is by genociding the third world. India, China, even Africa are no longer peasants living in mud huts riding a mule around their village, they have cities and cars now and, because their populations are retardedly enormous, are polluting the planet at 20x the pace that the US is. Most people cannot comprehend the sheer masses of people that exist in those regions. Nigeria, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India/Pakistan, China... bodies wall to wall in the billions, just stupidly crowded, and they all want to drive cars, drink bottled beverages, buy luxury goods, consume junkfood, use disposable plastic products, use a bunch of cleaning chemicals and shampoo and dish detergent, eat meat and dairy, go on vacations, fly on planes... And they will not stop because we ask nicely. They don't give one shit about the environment, they just want to consoom. They'll burn their garbage, litter in their rivers, shit in their streets, burn coal, whatever it takes to get those materialistic goods they feel entitled to. They don't care about the planet.

We created this monster and there's no comfortable way out of this problem. You can do it with a war or a virus if you want to be coy about it, but either way the only solution is genocide. All so some american companies could temporarily get their stock price high.

Horseshoe theory: if you're a big enough environmentalist you turn into a racist.

Only faggy republicucks who've fallen for oil industry psyop hate it.

It's a perfectly harmless edu-tainment cartoon. A bit preachy at times, but no where near as bad as the obnoxious brimstone christians of the era.

Everyone else barely remembers it as the bit of early 90s nostalgia that it is, along with Carmen Sandiego, and whatever else was on.

That's how millennials saw it too. It was a corny educational environmentalist show, but some of the action was cool and the girls were cute. I don't think we hated it or got "pissed" by it.

It's just almost everybody agrees it's corny, doesn't mean people didn't enjoy some parts of it. Millennials had a bunch of nostalgia for watching it as kids even if they made fun of it. Summoning Captain Planet was an early online fad/meme on GameFAQs forums. Hell, my high school even had a "Captain Planet Club."

>I've always found the hate for Captain Planet by Millennials and Gen xers to be so petty.

it is misplaced anger.

Let me tell you something anon. Every Millennial you meet was lied to as a child. Earth day and recycling was pretty much a lie made up by plastic and oil companies to make Kids and their parents think something was being done about pollution.

But nothing was being done. A lot of that plastic was just going in the trash or on barges for china to burn for power plant fuel.

This isn't even touching on snide children that were being asked to not be selfish little assholes, angry that anyone was asking them to put their cans in a recycling bin.

So yeah, thats it. Good kids angry they were lied to. Bad kids angry that anyone asked them to be little turds.

They lump that anger onto a little cartoon when really they should be mad at boomers and big oil. Maybe Ted Turner for using cartoonish bafoons as the image of polluters, instead of growing some balls and going after his fellow rich buddies.

The problem is that Gen X and Millennials were the first two generations to have a naturally skeptical mindset in a long time so it became pretty apparent that Captain Planet was propaganda from the get go so they just rejected it out of spite even if said individual actually did support environmentalism themselves. It was just the idea of the whole thing, that they thought they could actually make people think a certain way with that lame show, that was actually offensive to the intended audience.

Essentially, the show was structured for an unquestioning boomer audience because that is what the entertainment industry was accustomed to at the time, it just took the industry a while to realize that their target audience didn't actually share their parents mindset. The entertainment industry was finally able to learn how to successfully propagandize millennials in the twenty teens with shows like Rick and Morty though and now we have to live with the consequences of that breakthrough.

The worst people tend to live for the longest time, just look at Henry Kissinger and George Soros.

But since old Ted is still alive you can go and ask him why he blew up the Georgia Guide Stones that he paid so much money to set up in the 1980's.

>No one is immune to propaganda, especially 5-8 year olds.

Propaganda is a strange thing because everyone is immune to it if it sucks because you didn't do any research on your target audience, especially with 5-8 year olds because they won't watch anything if it isn't fun regardless of what it's promoting. Kids are not like adults or teens where they subscribe to something because they like the "idea" of it, it has to be fun or kids won't even give it consideration, and Captain Planet was incredibly lame.

If you want to see what failed propaganda looks like then go watch the "Vax-Scene" late night skit. That and Captain Planet are what you get when entertainment industry writers try to dip their foot into propaganda with no background in such things.

A lot of stuff from back then, both good and bad, had great theme songs. I always thought AirWolf was a kinda low budget and dumb show but the theme song is potentially one of the most iconic ever. There was so much talent back then making theme songs for Hollywood movies and TV shows that even shit could get a good theme song at least.

Then tell the rich assholes that make it cost-prohibitive for people who want kids on top of a stable and responsible lifestyle to stop making it more difficult for them to attain. The only people that benefit from the model you idiots keep pushing are people who don't give a fuck about that in the first place, which is to nobody's benefit except those who want to fill up prisons, have more bodies inducted into the military and more easily duped morons to throw breadcrumbs at to keep them clapping. A sappy kid's cartoon about taking care of the planet is not at fault for that shit.
>Depends on the problem.
Having more idiots that don't care about the consequences of spreading their spawn IS a problem. Shitting on the idea of "hey, how about you don't have a kid you aren't prepared for" is one of the most retarded takes I've ever seen on this site in years.

You're almost there, anon. What prevents people from having children is not a lack of resources, but a belief that lacking resources matters. Having children and raising them well can be done very cheaply. Our ancestors did it.

You're talking to the wrong Millennials. I grew up watch Captain Planet every day after school and my biggest issue with it was that when it would do the little message things at the end I kept forgetting what they were and got excited thinking maybe the station had started playing two episodes back to back.

>The problem is that Gen X and Millennials were the first two generations to have a naturally skeptical mindset in a long time so it became pretty apparent that Captain Planet was propaganda from the get go so they just rejected it out of spite even if said individual actually did support environmentalism themselves. It was just the idea of the whole thing, that they thought they could actually make people think a certain way with that lame show, that was actually offensive to the intended audience.

whatever kid. You probably weren't there for it. Little kids at the time were pretty upbeat. Environmentalism was a pretty big deal to kids. Earth day at school. Articles about it in magazines. Disney and Nick talked about it.

Sure, older millennial were starting to get jaded but plenty of the younger millennial weren't that bitter yet and really thought something was going to get done.

My issue with Captain Planet was that
- the bad guys are all flat, they just... pollute for the sake of being able to. No other reason. At least make it so they do it so they can make a billion dollars by stocks insider trading or something.
- Captain Planet is supposed to be powerful enough to crack the planet in half if he wanted, but you throw some garbage at him and he turns into a helpless kitten. How the fuck does that even work, a banana peel is organic waste that is a natural part of food cycles (not to mention that lots of animals outright eat it), it shouldn't make him fall into his knees. Even used toilet paper is technically just shredded wood and natural waste.
Radioactivity and plastic waste, sure, I get that. But just making him weak to all garbage is offensively stupid.

Gen X and Millennials seem to hate anything campy and corny while I noticed zoomers seem to like it generally but I guess it has to do with Gen X and Millennials obsession with irony vs I noticed with young people they know it's campy and corny but don't care and like it for what it is I mean look at the reaction young people have to the new Superman movie more campy tone vs older people or how oddly enough zoomers never had the issue with Adam West Batman like Gen X did after the show ended but it does help West was in cartoons zoomers grew up with.

The only issue people had with adam west batman was it was confusing if you were a kid and first saw the two movies. You'd wonder "what the fuck is the deal with this? Why does it look like this? What is going on?"

I dont think anyone actually hated the adam west batman

The issue is that cape comics held that stigma for decades long after the show had gone off the air. Even after two serious Batman movies, they fell into it again with the two sequels. It took a good number of serious and successful superhero movies to come out in the 00s for that false stigma to finally end. And even then you had older fans griping when the The Brave and the Bold cartoon came out, but it was fine, Nolan's take countered that as the "not for kids" version.

Yes.
>A show against the production of goods
You will own nothing and be happy.
>a show against over population
Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
>A show against the international drug trade
If it's not brought to you by Pfizer then it's illegal and you should not have it.

Looks like that Anon's claim is absolutely correct and you need to brush up on what Globalism's true priorities actually are, scrub.
