Scifi is about exploring brand new ideas, fantasy is about resonating with old ones. They're two sides of an important coin. Not that fantasy can't have like, some weird shit going on with demons and fairies because they are shapeshifters and famously slutty, but... it's still yin and yang, y'know. Not yin and yang and then some third thing.

But this show isn't either of those, it's slice of life. and slice of life is supposed to be about.. life. Usually an idealized form of life, though with the little foibles we can relate to, without stressing us out too badly. You wouldn't have a story about Barry's sister cutting herself, you'd have something a little softer about how school is stressing her out.

I'm probably the only one bothered by this, but I really, really hate the way they format the writer/story artist credits at the start of each episode. You're already too distracted trying to appreciate the title card and Sweepy's sponsor poster, so as someone actually interested in the crew behind one of my favorite currently airing shows, I like to know who's responsible for a given episode and end up having to rewind every time I tune in to a new premiere. No other show does this. It's annoying.

I give them a few chances, there are only a few hardline things where i HAVE to quit the show. Recasting based on race is the big one. Pushing the gay on the kids is another. When a creator is kicked out over being canceled, that's a 50/50 depending on the circumstances. If the creator actually had some mental breakdown and I think one way or another, had to leave.. then that's different from just like "his wife lied and said he hit her, so he's out without a thought" situations.
