oh boy, this is an entire thread in itself.
I can't speak about women that really like REAL gay men. Thats its own thing. BUT women who write and read gay fanfiction usually don't really like their own body or the idea of themselvse having sex. It gives them anxiety, which shuts down their sex drive. Fun fact, many women have trouble being turned on and having anxiety. Much harder for them. I'm sure some of them shlick it when they are stressed, but it happens less than with men.
ANYWAY, yeah, they either don't like their own bodies AND/OR thinking about themselves having sex gives them anxiety. So much so that if they read a story where a woman and man make love, they will insert as the woman and that will give them anxiety, shutting down their enjoyment of the romantic fiction.
So what do they do? They read gay smut. Problem solved. They can't fully insert as either character, so they don't get as much anxiety, so they take more enjoyment from it.
This is also why a lot of gay fanfics and yaoi have almost nothing to do with how real gay men operate. One of both men are just women with dicks, mentally. One or both of them are written so the woman can insert physically but not mentally. Their reptilian brain is able to insert, while not their frontal lobe.
I hope this puts some things into perspective for you. Its part of why the male on male relationships in something like helluva boss make no sense. Blitzo and Fizz aren't mentally men. They are written like women so women can insert but not too much.
Which is funny because that means some of the women working on the show see themselves as angry shit goblins like Blitzo.
