Comparing and contrastin Synder and Gunn's supersuits has made me realize that everybody who says the trunks are necessary for the costume is right. Seeing the Synder suit you're struck by how dull all that blue is. The contrasting red trunks of the Gunn suit, of the classic suit, just look better: some red, to break up all that blue. And right where it needs to be, smack dab in the middle of all the blue.

It's a good look and they never should have tried to mess with it.

To be air the Snyder suit is also literally dull in the sense that it's saturated and that makes it a little less eye searing than the Gunn suit's shade of blue would be without the trunks.

Obviously. It's *only* been a consistent part of his design for like, 80 years now.

Unironically anti-trunks people have always proven that they don't 'get' the character, by nature of forgetting the trunks. That tells me you don't understand the circus strongman visual origins of the character. That tells me you don't understand the character is meant to be a fun, fantastical character meant to appeal to kids.

It's not just Superman. Batman doesn't really work with an all-grey bodysuit. It's one of the things that kept me from liking the Batflek suit.

You can even justify Batman's trunks more than Superman's trunks. If you assume the Batsuit's got a certain amount of armor in it, it's obvious that Bruce would have crotch/pelvic protection, probably sturdier than the rest of the suit. Gotta protect what matters.

I prefer the Snydersuit overall in terms of design, prefer the blue and the trunks of the Gunn suit. There's a lot the new suit does great,
What I like about the Snyder suit in particular is the the open collar look, the Gunn suit lacking it is supremely disappointing, and the big chunky S. The ribbing details, which I'm never fond of (Reeve's suit is close to the ideal for me) feel more naturally implemented on the snyder look, though the cuffs are something I never liked. I like how it has
I am hoping that all these cues were intentional and due tot he Jor-el reveal, Superman ditches the House of El crest and sci-fi looking costume for a more classic one. Event he trunks being lined feels over done. I do really appreciate what it's going for despite having what I feel are unnecessary movie redesigning aspects. It's just that the S and the collar really makes or breaks the look for me, more than any other aspect(it's a big part of why I dislike the Returns costume, despite having the maybe the best material)

I actually disagree with the belt takes, it may be better than nothing but it almost draws attention to the fact that it's not enough to break up the blue. I think it's just easier to accept an all-black or all-grey Batman than it is to accept an all-blue Superman.

Honestly I genuinely don't see the cause of the overreaction. Left is fine. So is right. It's a stylistic divergence but both still get across the basic idea of "guy in movement-friendly costume who flies through space".

There's so many things to complain about both the Snyderverse and Gunnverse, I just don't see the point in getting ornery about the damn costumes. Wake me up when they make a pink Superman costume with a rainbow flag.

I think it works for the suits that they have. MoS suit is too muted to put trunks on it. Superman suit hugs the body less and the colors are more prominent.

Gunn's suit - with or without trunks - has other problems, from the excess padding on it which is why so many people call it loose-fitting PJs to the unnecessary and busy-ness of the excess lines and geometric patterns.

I personally don't have a preference like some do for one shield over another but would offer that this is more modern design and the suit is a bit more old-fashioned and in that respect it seems incongruous.
