I like John Redcorn and Dale's wife. I feel like a lot of people get to hung up on what real cheating is like and don't get how they are coming from this from a different angle to keep things interesting. Nah if anything later seasons kind of rehab him a lot with him being a secondary father figure to Joseph even implicitly off screen with stuff like teaching him to shave and ride a bike. Early John was much more a deadbeat with the joke being his noble facade being undercut by his scumbag reality.

It's more than that, from Redcorn's perspective Dale, who is the quintessential colonial American, is living his life, on his land, and raising his future, and is nobler than him. I used to idolize him. Now I'm the same age and, no, I just feel sympathy for him. He and and Nancy should have stopped that dumb game of adultery once Joseph was born. Dale never addressing it only speaks to how mentally and emotionally strong he is. Dale isn't the person who is going to have to answer to God for his actions when he dies. He stewarded his family, his relationships and his finances nicely. His family wasn't left for wanting. Dale wasn't lazy or unmotivated; he always provided. What Nancy didn't like in him could have been developed or met halfway--but she went the way of adultery which gives Dale all the right in the world to divorce her. He doesn't, which speaks to his character. The fact that she finally lets him out of that wicked little dance after eating up much of his youth and stopping Dale from potentially finding his happiness with another woman really crappy but, hey, she finally has John in the full capacity the two of them always fantasized about. John should be on the way to his Good End but I get the feeling that he isn't. Especially given his voice actor has passed.

He was young, in shape and was moderately successful just based off of how fit he kept his body. Of course as a kid I wanted to emulate John but as an adult I can see how deeply unstable and unhappy he is and wouldn't wish that kind of life on any man. John would have been shot and killed or ran off a long time ago by anyone else. It's only by the grace of God that Dale doesn't get himself in that destructive mindset and channel it into actually harming anything other than insects' and their negative influence on the lives of others.
