Honestly though, how exactly does Superman fight for these? You'd think he's a lawyer based on this slogan. But he mostly just beats space villains and Luthor who hates Superman for being Superman.

He really excels as glorified rescue service. That's the most straightforward application of his powers.

It's not like there are things like tsunami's that destroy entire continents or tornadoes or hurricanes from which people need rescuing, or any other of a number of natural disasters which are shown repeatedly and ad nauseam over the years as activities for a superheroic being to help out in, in particular Superman given that he's 'faster than a speeding bullet' and is a fucking flying brick.

Truth Justice and the American Way comes from the radio show. A lot of Superman’s adventures there actually stemmed from Clark Kent’s adventures as an ace reporter. The American Way wasn’t added until the war years, so you could interpret the Truth and Justice part as a reference to Clark Kent searching for the Truth and Superman meting out the Justice.

Journalism is called the fourth estate because other than the existing power structures, it’s literally meant to exist to speak truth to power

In theory a corrupt official is probably gonna get away with it unless an investigate journalist discovers it and prints a story about it, which leads to it being resolved etc etc
