Was male nerd culture far less homophobic before SJWs came onto the scene?

One fan letter in the 60s was asking for Peter Parker to join Students For A Democratic Society, that would have been an interesting path to take.

All culture was less "homophobic" before the SJWs. Back in the day you would make a comment at a homo, he would clap back with a witty remark, someone would get a chuckle and that was it. You didn't respect them but you wouldn't harm them. They were only really hated by their family, and I kinda felt bad for them.

Depends on what you mean with homophobic.
Most didn't really give much of a fuck about them, besides thinking they were goofy as fuck, hence being the butt of the joke so much.
But with all the other stupid shit that's been retroactively attached to them, either directly or by association, the animosity has certainly grown over the years.

I did a research and Marvel did receive letters from the KKK who murdered a liberal talk show host. Liberals were debbie downers, but I guess Stan was just too conservative and respectable. Then again Stan hated hippies

I thought guys were more violent than girls...
Not sure if I was wrong or guys in Brooklyn are worse than Gabrielle.

Probably, yeah. At least on the fanbase side of things.
The attempts by the 'SJWs' at the time to basically make comics fully political caused an inverse reaction and made many male nerds more homophobic and sexist than they were before. I mean if making characters randomly gay, and race-swapping every new character wasn't such a big trope, when it would happen, it wouldn't be so negatively received.

However on the industry-side, there probably was a really significant and issue-causing amount of sexism and homophobia.
I mean back in the 2000s I remember every comic with a woman in it would stop at nothing to sexualize her. And I like cheesecake, but there's a time and place, and it was literally every damn panel.
Also the writers back then also made Wonder Woman some misandrist bitch, presumably because they didn't like women and that's how they envisioned a strong woman internally. Those going away was a good change.
Unfortunately ideologically-possessed retards don't know when to stop.
