What do you think about Code Lyoko?

As a kid I thought the characters looked really ugly so I never watched it.

It's a pretty good action show and the character dynamics are interesting enough to serve as a side-show to the otherwise surface-level action stuff. Foreheads are kinda funky.

I remember really wanting to like it. The characters and setting were strangely comfy but the plot took forever to go anywhere and the voice acting was really rough at times. Also, the cgi stuff cut into the budget in a bad way that harmed both the 2D and 3D segments.

I think I'll never watch the fourth season because of the live action, I think it's weird that in retrospect the entire series is the protagonists losing during the season finale and starting the next season on even worse circumstances, and I find the fact that the series has a novelization that's essentially a retelling of an alternate season 4 written in the perspective of Jeremie (who is ghost writing for someone else in what seems to be a bad ending) to be both weird in concept and even weirder that it never received an official English translation or a French translation for the last 2 of 4 books.

I find it probably the most nostalgic of all cartoons these days. Sci-fi action fun aside, just the snapshot in time of kids being pretty realistic kids in the final days before smartphones and social media fucked everything up irreparably. XANA couldn’t dream of causing the world such damage.

It was cool seeing girls in their underwear on TV when I was a kid. The action scenes always looked too slow paced.

Ok allow me to explain.
there was a live-action sequel called Code Lyoko : Evolution. A lot of fans didn't like especially with the changes. in fact it was so bad that the last 8 episodes weren't release in the country of origin but in Hungary.
Moonscoop were trying really hard to push this series and when it failed the went into Bankruptcy

The only good thing that came out of the series was that the actors often interacted with their fans with particular attention to the actors of Yumi and Ulrich. they often did livestreams while the show was airing even getting the actors of William, Odd, Aelita to join their streams.
After the show the actors would end up together and would end up having a baby girl theres even a photo of the actor playing William holding her.

I remember re-watching the series sometime in 2018 and fantasizing about having an AI companion like Aelita. Thought the technology was years away and didn't know much about Computer Science, so it simply remained just that--a fantasy--until I forgot about it and moved on.

Interesting to see that just 6 or so years later, every other normalfag is talking to their own AI "waifu"--most likely some other nigga on the other side of the screen; I'm not so convinced it's AI. It's not AGI, so it's foolish to converse with one as though it were a real person--though I'd maintain a certain degree of amicability for the sake of posterity. Just in case...

I see it as nothing more than a trivial novelty--though it's certainly making waves in lots of industries and the economy. There's no way this doesn't end with another bubble economy bursting spectacularly.

I guess we've "returned to the past" to the late-90's, early-00's in that respect. The ride never ends.

The AI Waifu's while impressive at a glance are just dressed up chatbots at the end of the day.
I had to program a chatbot once for a college course it ended up a dumber version of Cleverbot. It's not too hard, just start it off with some canned phrases and you train it by talking with it so it learns to not sound so robotic.
I'm sure we'll get AI assistants eventually that aren't just Google with a voice in a decade or so but till then it's all just a cheap imitation of life.

Evolution was unironically not that bad. Took a few episodes to get used to and the live action segments were made with less than a shoestring budget but all the money was put into the Lyoko segments which is more important. The only true bad think about Evolution was how it ended on a cliffhanger and there will be no season 6.

It’s a boarding school with international students, hence Jeremie and Sissi are French, Ulrich is German, Aelita is Swiss, Yumi is Japanese, Odd is Italian, William is Scottish etc. probably for a global audience and giving the characters distinct national origins makes it less likely for foreign localisations to give the characters dumb alternative names.

Overall I think the show is great my main issue was that Lyoko itself wasn’t usually rendered in an interesting manner. Sure it’s a rundown digital world but it can still attempt to look interesting. Second I really wish we got some Aelita focused episodes that didn’t deal mainly with the central plot. An episode where she exploited her quasi computer program nature to do something for her friends benefit before screwing up would of been awesome.
