i finished watching the 2012 movie and i liked it, i want to hear Dredd fans opinions on the movie, is it accurate to the source material?
are the comics good? if so, how should i go about reading them?
can i read them from the beginning like Manga or are there recommended/ must read runs that i should go for instead?

i'd start with the Essential Judge Dredd collection if you are completely new and just want to learn more about the world and the character. You can read them in any order, it doesn't really matter. You don't need to read the progs.
As for the movie, its pretty good, but its missing some of the tongue in cheek satire that the comics have. It does respect the story and characters, but in a perfect world i'd love the camp of the Stallone movie blended with the action and tone of the 2012 movie, if that makes sense

>is it accurate to the source material?
In some ways, yes, and no in others.
>are the comics good?
Some of the best comics of all time.
>how should i go about reading them?
I started with the old colorized reprints from the 80s. Sort of a "Best of..." anthology series.
>can i read them from the beginning
Yes, you can do that, too.

its great that judge dredd remains just outside the peripheral of the mainstream. Popular enough to have a dedicated fanbase, but obscure enough to not allow normies and women to ruin it

Itโ€™s a boring but inoffensive adaptation of the source material that on its own is entertaining

>is it accurate to the source material?

No. The concept of Dredd was to create a version of the JD mythology that's more realistic and could conceivably happen in real life, while keeping as much of the original concept as possible. The actual comics are VERY satirical and full to bursting of the kind of nonsense that only works on a comic page.

Dredd 2012 is, however, an excellent movie, proving that an adaptation doesn't need to be "accurate" as long as it's done with respect and care for the material.

Always read it. Start with the more modern stuff and if you really like it read the golden age. The Stallone movie is actually closer to the comics of the 90s than the Garland one of the comics in 2012.

Itโ€™s much closer to a comic book in general too. Judge Dredd is invincible when Stallone plays him and his authority is absolute. Urbanโ€™s portrayal of him is too realistic and gritty to be like the comics.

I got into JD last December cuz I beat cyberpunk for the first time and I heard that CP was based on Judge Dredd. I would start with the case files because they are chronological. Case file 02 is when judge dredd finally finds footing and gets serious as he goes on more intense missions and thereโ€™s longer arcs.
I would reccomend case files 02, the day law died is very good.

I think it would be more incitement to violence. To your actual post though, itโ€™s a great idea for a story but definitely needs a fresh take. I bet the movie will be this storyline, if not it will be the sequel.

Some, but not all. I wouldn't even say that the movie is accurate to the majority.

Literally the start.
>can i read them from the beginning like Manga or are there recommended/ must read runs that i should go for instead?
It's been one story, running in real time. It's what you mangafags wish for, but no one actually cares about.

Mangas that are one continuous story? I agree. Most Manga authors are shit, and comics actually benefit from having multiple authors writing them. Manga are written with an idea in mind, but then the publisher wants to milk it for all its worth, so stories that should have ended, don't get a satisfying ending. Then when the manga loses popularity, the author is given a few months to wrap everything up. At least with unending capeshit, you can pick things up with the majority of new authors, and drop when they stop. Generally, getting a good adventure storyarc.
Oh? You meant Judge Dredd comics? That's because it's not published in a way that burgerlanders can easily follow. The second they have to go to a compilation of multiple stories in one magazine, they get confused.
The unendingness of capeshit is only a problem for autistic losers who think that they need to read everything, and require the story to have an ending.
