Despite being a huge Superman fan, I've actually never read a few of these, like For All Seasons. I also somehow missed Escape From Bizarro World from Johns' run so I think I may get to these real soon.

Also the new Superman movie soundtrack is based.

I quite liked the Sterling Gates run and nu52 was alright too, surprisingly enough.

>>149491634
I quite liked the recent Mark Waid run.

Hating superman for being boring is much more of a normie opinion nowadays than liking him, thanks for the thread anon Ill give a shot

>>Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow
is it actually recommended for Luthor? i don't read much Luthor (though i did really like him in 52 and the new movie) and it's been a while since i read WHTTMOT, but iirc, Luthor's body was just hijacked by Brainiac. i don't remember him doing anything particularly notable or important. i think, vaguely, i remember him doing something to screw over Brainiac? and i guess just him generally trying to fight Brainiac. but i remember reading the story and being a bit taken aback at how Luthor was mostly just Brainiac's puppet for the story, especially when it was considered such a big Superman story and Luthor was his rival.

52 is definitely a fun one though. picrel was fucking kino (spoilering in case anyone's planning to read it, i don't wanna spoil such a cool moment)

same here, some issue, comet and red daughter of krypton are interesting. Late 2010-2011 issue before flashpoint are interesting too.

Found this on Reddit, which is a bit more comprehensive but not necessarily complete. I really need to make my own list one of these days

I think I've grown to resent recommendation lists. it's not that I have issue trying to help out potential new readers or giving them stuff I enjoy to read but it always feels like it comes off too "greatest hits." It feels like it's encouraging new readers to just focus on a select few things rather than trying to get into proper runs. Superman for example you'll get people saying "Read All Star, read Action Comics 775, read Annual 11, Red Son, All Seasons etc "but how much of this helps people getting into the proper continuity run? Now a lot of this is on the publishers who don't always make it easy to get collected editions, DC only JUST put out Triangle Era and started their Finests but I imagine a lot of people, at least hear can find alternative methods to read. It just feels like all we're doing is assigning home work.

I've always been a Marvel guy but reading JLA/Avengers has made me want to start reading some DC.
Where should I start with Batman, Superman, JLA, whatever in terms of actual runs? Is it worth going all the way back to golden age stuff? Does that continuity matter? Or is there a good silver or bronze age starting point instead? I like to start at the beginning where I can but from what I can tell DC's continuity isn't as straightforward as Marvel's is.

I was overly negative, but I want to say good thread anyway. This is literally the kind of stuff DC/Marvel should do whenever they release a film, to incentivize new readers.
