Meh. The new design kind of misses the whole point of the original Fionna. Like, the whole gimmick of the original Fionna stories was: "What if Adventure Time was targeted toward teen girls rather than teen boys?" In weeb terms, what if it was a shōjo? That's why there was an uptick in direct relationship drama compared to the normal show (well, at least when the series was actually still good). The new design might be "more original," but that wasn't really the point. Those episodes weren't just "What if the cast was genderbent?" they were "What if it was targeted to a different audience entirely?" and to sell that idea, the characters needed to remain similar to their originals. It's the same basic characters being transposed onto a different series and explore what that would be like. The characters, down to their core, are still the same and the show needed to make that visually obvious.
The new show has anything to do this. It's just Bee and Puppy Cat and targeted to middle age women. Which kinda suck. Like really when was the last proper show that actually correctly appealed to teen girls in a meaningful way? Star Vs? That was a decade ago.
