I think because most alien design, animated or not is created with the idea/ based on the foundation of, it needs to be able to fit a man in a suit or be relatively cheap to put makeup, prosthetics, and a wig on guy.

animating aliens is hard and currently motherfuckers are too lazy to even try or they don't have the proper time to do so.

also, had you ever considered the setting as well? because you'll have to go full on speculative evolution and design an entire alien world from scratch if you want to do it right.
its own flora and fauna which by default should function as alien as you can.

you have to either be a genius or one hell of a imagination to design an entire alien world like how you desire OP.
shit even designing the very planet will be hard too.

It's more marketable. Companies know this. Blame the audience for preferring those types over less humanoid ones. The exception being something like xenomorphs but that's because they're monsters. Monster/alien fucking is on the rise but it's not on mainstream million and billion dollar popular.

Bipedalism with hands is pretty top tier design for tool use. Basic priciples dictate that things like hammer and nails are going to be one of the most common ways to build things until you can develop further. And that requires a certain design in your species to hold a stick with a rock tied to it.

Therefore any species that develops would need to do something like that.

If you make them anything else they're basically just monsters. You do get some variety with things like Star Wars, but generally speaking they all have some aspect of being humanoid. All the ones that don't are viewed as monsters/animals.

Now, I know someone is going to say 'Nuh uh! Look at the Huts!", but they're just human (if fat) from the torso up, and fat snake/slug below. They still have arms, opposable thumbs, a face, and are capable of speaking a complex language. They're basically a slug version of a mermaid.

You have a bit of convergent evolution going on, and when intelligence sets in, the lack of evolution constraints will remove overly complex features that arent vital. Culture can keep some of it but the more evolved you get the more naked and humanlike you might become. Genetics like simplicity.

Because Star Wars is at its start a live action movie franchise. So you have to limit yourself to what can be out into a costume or what can be handled animatronically.

AND PLEASE REMEMBER that before Star Wars a lot of scifi designs/costumes were pic related. Just because the bar is set so high now days do not forget that Star Wars was one of the ones that helped push the bar to where it is today.

>supposed science fiction fans can't fathom convergent evolution
Why can't it be both? And are the retards who make this argument not understanding that it depends on the intellectual property?
Star Wars has simple shit where nice things are design nice, ugly things are designed ugly, and weird things are designed weird.
Aliens and Predator follow a different design philosophy than Oddworld. And something like District 9 made them bugs but gave them big eyes for cuteness.
It always depends on the series.
I hate fags who say
>why are fantasy creatures/aliens designed so blandly
Epspecially when mentioning sexual dimorphism. Sometimes it's basic like in WoW, but other times different. THERE IS NO BLANKET DESIGN SO STOP LOOKING AT MAINSTREAM SHIT AND WONDERING WHY EVERYTHING IS DESIGNED TO BE APPEALING TO THE MAINSTREAM.

Well there's way to many I like such as Alien Baltan, Alien Metron and Alien Guts but one I've always held a real fondness for is Alien Mefilas who's characterised as a highly cunning foe who fought the original Ultraman to a draw. I also really like how they reinvented him in Shin Ultraman while adding some interesting characterisation as a very affiable polite adversary but one that clearly still wants to manipulate humanity into becoming the latest bioweapon despite enjoying them and their world https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1Np_h87rCLs

Too often creators underestimate the lower bounds of human empathy.

Also, Sci-Fi like Star Wars (or Avatar) is generally for boys and there is this underlying assumption that boys won't care about a person unless that person is conventionally attractive.

And one last thing is that human(oid)s are easier to storyboard and animate.

Once you start adding limbs or eyes it starts getting harder to figure out how to move and emote.
Anonymous No.149529783
>>149503236 (OP)
For Star Wars or Star Trek, I just figure that we mostly see the humanoids interact with each other because of the human centric point of view, and convergent evolution producing humanoid important resources like similar air, food, size planets etc.

I figure off screen there are probably bizarre aliens like some sapient shade of blue, but there is little reason to interact with them as there is little commonality.
