>>149513646He could've just claimed Steven was a homebirth or something and got him set up with a SSN and such, but the huge magic gem in his navel was really the monkey wrench in things. He would've been abducted by the government or something.
>>149513695I'd be more on board with this if they had played that up in the original. Like, having Steven's pep talks not work all the time and having to uncomfortably listen to trauma dumping or whatever, and then having the gems ignore his advice and throw a fit acting crazy still. Other than maybe Jasper, his spiel worked on everyone 100% of the time the first time he tried it. All he ever had to do was run into the room and go: "Yay! We're all friends! Everyone's just feeling a little misunderstood, but don't worry! We can all just get along!" and everyone went: "OMG Steven, you're right! Yay! You're the most special boy ever and we love you, lets all be friends now!"
I feel like if everything went exactly the way it did in the original series he not only wouldn't have trauma, but he would have an unrealistic touchy feely confidence about being able to solve all problems with positive vibes. It would've been better if instead of doing the PTSD angle right out the gate they instead showed that now that he was older people treated him more like a weird guy instead of a cute kid and dealing with adults' problems was a lot harder than what he was used to as a kid and that making him bummed out and having to figure out how to grow and navigate that.
