I never see anyone discuss this, even amidst all the constant culture wars on /co/, so let's try to have a reasonable discussion about this.

I don't care about lesbians in cartoons and whatnot, but one thing that keeps bugging me is how, in the animation released in the last decade, the female characters are often not allowed to have boobs. There are a few exceptions, but for the most part, it's all either sticks or shortstacks, with flat or really small chests.

Now I'm an ass person more than a boobs person, but this still feels kinda wrong to me. It's fine if there are SOME flat characters, but when it's being done so much it starts to feel like deliberate censorship.

I've been thinking about potential reasons for this and right now I think it has to be a mix of these three factors:
>1) female writers and artists in Hollywood are insecure about their boob size and try to make it a non-factor in their work, creating a perfect fictional world where they will never be judged for having small boobs
>2) it's part of the effort to dilute gender barriers in order to homogenize products as much as possible; if you pretend boobs don't exist then you can focus on sexualizing asses on both males and females and erase gender differences; depending on how schizo you want to get this can feed into the trans movement or trying to turn all the males gay or whatever but I think it's primarily about trying to slowly erase the concept of a gendered target demographic
>3) good ol' American puritanism, this is readily accepted in part because many out-of-touch business people in the industry still think kids' media should be sanitized as much as possible because that's how it was 50 years ago when they were kids

This isn't a new thing at all OP. It's why the misnomer of "pixar mom" exists. Even though you'll find bigger tits back then(not by much though), animators were still absolutely more awkward about drawing bigger boobs but were fine with drawing big asses and wide hips when they wanted to indicate a woman was mature and developed. Well it had already been said here, but I agree that it is likely because boobs are automatically seen as an oversexualization, whereas asses not to much, and, since cartoons are usually either directed towards a younger audience OR they want to pass the image of being deep/serious, OR just want to appeal to an audience that might feel offended, they just opt to nerf the boobas.

I think it's a mixture of lack of sexuality, and trying to get children used to the way trannies look.

Many people who design these characters are either straight women, gay males, or liberal males who are taught that sexualizing women is bad. Back then most of the people designing characters were straight males.

There are tons of trannies in the animation industry, spreading their agenda through childrens cartoons (and even video games and television).
I remember seeing an article about the last of us part 2, and how they tried to make the females more androgynous, including smaller breasts (notably the face and body reference for Dina has large breasts, and they made them much smaller for her in game model) or none at all (abby, who straight up has no breast tissue, they just referenced male chests for her model) looking to be friendly to trannies. Basically male trannies either have flat chests due to being male, or if they are on hormones grow very small "breasts", never big ones, due to male bodies not having breast tissue like female ones. And it also explains why female characters are not as curvy anymore. Estrogen will give males fat in the hips and butt area, but not much. Unlike females, who usually have a lot of fat in those areas.
