Actually just watched the commentary for that episode like 3 days ago. That was because Trey was recommended to go to Costa Rica by Flea, so he went on vacation with his girlfriend and ended up absolutely hating it, especially because there were a ton of snakes and he hates snakes. He said more than anything it was just him venting about the terrible trip.

The Starship Troopers movie wasn't satire, they had a script called 'Bugs!' that they retitled because Tristar had the rights for a Starship Troopers adaptation. It has nothing it common with the book.
