I've been loving these two books so far, and I am loving them.
But I do think this issue of Absolute Martian Manhunter is a step back from issues 1-4. Also if they are going to make this the run which is focused on Darkseid and that grander continuity, I think that's a mistake. AMM is so unique, which is a huge part of why it's so great to read, and getting bogged down in DC cosmic retardation will lessen that appeal.

I thought Absolute Wonder Woman 10 was fantastic. I love the art and the panel lay outs, buy it and read it physically, it's much better that way.
The story continues to be neat, the mythos is captivating. That flash back to Steve and the gang was a bit awkward. I would like there to be more focus on Diana and Steve's romance, but that's my usual complaint with almost anything Wonder Woman.

Problem is, Absolute MM seems to be following a largely interconnected mystery plot. It is interesting for now because it keeps moving forward and delving into the mysteries of the world, but extending that too much leads to problems as it starts to drag out and either become diluted or begin a new arc that often doesn't hit as hard.

As much as it pains me, I would much rather it resolve with one strong arc than either get bloated with filler or flub a new arc.
Anonymous No.149529755
>>149529384
Yeah AMM has one strong thread, quell the chaos of the modern modern world and beat the White Martian. If the book continues, either WM is defeated at the end of the Arc and it moves on to a new threat which will be lesser in context and thematic purpose. Or the WM exists as the overarching antagonist and the book either spins its wheels doing problem of the week until they are told to wrap it up or the impetus of the run fades into the background as other shit starts coming up.

So is the implication here that Darkseid created the Absolute universe? If so it's interesting that the Big Two are both doing hot new AUs and both of them were created by established villains

another terrific issue. it really reminds me of the marvel Inferno stories where they used the heatwave/blackout setting to lead into some wackout shit.

IMO Absolute is handling this better than Ultimate is by a landslide. I'm not usually a big Darkseid fan at all, but the way they are treating him as a cosmic horror entity in Absolute (and having plenty of Absolute comics running largely standalone without his involvement outside of vague influence on the world) is so far much more effective to me than what Ultimate is doing with the Maker nowadays.

Putting Ultimate's weird real time storytelling aside, I think Absolute is great at giving its runs more time to breathe and build the world instead of jumping right into WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER A TEAM. People's interest in Ultimate Spider-Man in particular seems to have dropped off pretty hard when it started getting more into the overarching story instead of being a run about a family man Spider-Man. Not every Absolute is great, Superman and Flash are pretty lackluster and Green Lantern is mediocre but with interesting ideas, but I am still more engaged with the setting as a whole.

I wonder if it's intentional that she looks a lot like Absolute Black Mask in this outfit. She would fit in with the Party Animals gang just fine.

And the crossover bs begins. I know we were never going to get to keep these as they are, but you know the moment they start crossing over, the typical DC shenanigans will never end. I just hope they don't start making each series into homework to understand the others.

At least it’s in universe rather than multiverse bullshit
