I've only seen and liked a few episodes of season one, but I can avoid all the latter seasons because I disagree with a lot of the changes Muto and others made to the show after Penn left. It's not shit talk. It's being truthful. I don't dislike adventure time but objectively it was less "masculine" than other shows at the time. Regular show was a show about bros gaming, slacking off of work, hitting on girls, and just in general doing bro stuff. The entire relationship between mordecai and rigby is two male best friends doing male stuff, which is more interesting to boys than it is to girls. Finn and jake arent bros, jake is like a cool but guiding uncle, that sort of relationship is more appealing to broader audiences. And the characters in adventure time just aren't characters boys would find cool (lumpy space princess, the apple elephant lady, they're just not really that cool). Compared to like muscle man or skips. Adventure time just wasn't really a show "for boys" at all.

I was wondering about that, especially since the furthest I've got into Adventure Time was its first season. Looking at this show from an outsider's point of view as I read about some of the plot and character changes in later seasons, I was shocked by the way this show's tone, scope, and audience changed compared to just a few seasons earlier. Whether you agree with the changes Adventure Time went through or not, it's crazy how a popular show like this can make such a drastic shift after just a few years.
