I'm playing WFC right now. I got to the last chapter of the campaign but then got stuck on the Trypticon fight and stopped playing. I want to pick it up again but I'll still be on that same damn fight and it's been so long that I'm worried I'll be rusty. I don't wanna cheese it by turning down the difficulty either lol

It's a great titanomachy saga and taps into some of the deepest western storytelling traditions there are. Without it the constant good-evil battle between Cons and Bots would have gotten boring a long time ago. A three-way faction fight makes things much more interesting.

I also makes the background setting much more interesting with new planets, space opera, aliens, spaceships, etc.

THANK YOU. I have always subscribed to the cartoon origins (Transformers are consumer products created by the Quintessons) and anything that tries to turn that magical just weakens the whole story. It's such a significantly more meaningful story for it to be about creations surpassing their creators than "uhhh the gods made them ok?"

And equally, identifying all the primes and making them such a small group makes the whole Transformers universe feel so small and limited.

making the quints creators/overlords is a quick and succinct way of answering the classic "if they're robots, who built them?" question without having to force anything contrived. having them originate from one of the primes completely misses the point of what made them work in the first place and makes their whole faction feel like an afterthought. I also just think it's cool and compelling to have a synthetic vs organic scenario where the usual morality is reversed.

I don't mind a bit of pulpiness or mysticism. my ideal origin story is Primus existing as a sort of god-like energy being before the quints use him/it to create cybertron, similar to the c'tan in warhammer. that way there's elements of truth to both origin stories that either side can exploit to make themselves look more legitimate.

Yes! Mine too! The origin I always use in my head is

>Using Vector Sigma they begin creating their greatest work, a factory world called Cybertron. They don't fundamentally understand its inner workings though.

There's still a bit of mysticism in that Primus and Unicron are still some mysterious forces that are tapped into, but it also leans into the idea of them being machines.

I just really like the idea of the Cybertronians being better than the Quintessons ever were. The Quintessons are all greed and malice while the Cybertronians have infinite potential to change and grow. There's a bit in IDW that talks about how Cybertronians fought a war for millions of years in a stalemate but as soon as they were exposed to humans it was over in a flash because they could integrate ideas from other species into their own. I think it's a fun play on the idea of them "transforming" in more ways than just physical.

sorry to double post but One was one of the few times I liked the Primes specifically because it felt like they were just a group of leaders, rather than being some kind of primeval gods. But yeah I much prefer Alpha Trion from the show rather than from One. I like him better as more of a scholar type than a warrior. I think him being just another fighting man instead of like, a Merlin, makes him a little boring in a series full of warriors.

I love the comic and that Cosmos mold. Excited as fuck to see Dan Mora take over as the main artist (though I've been loving the Daniel Warren Johnson and Jorge Corona art too). Hoping Kirkman will help the pacing feel a little less glacial too (though I think that's mostly due to just wanting more as soon as I finish the latest issue).
