DURRR DURRR DURR THIS IS TRASH DURRR

This is what growing up on beanmouth slop does to a generation, like come the fuck on, this shit looks more appealing than any cartoon currently on television. It’s also great to see internet talents like Dorkymations working with long-time industry professionals like Bob Jacques. This isn’t 90’s nostalgiafag garbage, I didn’t grow up in the 90’s and I loved this, it was moreso a direct homage to the great cartoons of that decade like Ren & Stimpy and Rocko rather than nostalgia bait. It also utilizes the writing as well rather than feeling style over substance, as that’s a problem I’ve noticed a lot of Internet wacky cartoons have.

This shit is based.

I love both Rocko's Modern Life and Ren & Stimpy very dearly so I feel like I should be the target demographic for this, but this is kinda hard to watch. A word I'd use to describe it is "overindulgent". There's just too much shit happening all of the time. Constant loud music, constant sound effect cues from R&S, constant yelling, constant over the top animation. Maybe the I'm just not Tiktok brained enough for this or the idea is to be overstimulating on purpose, but I feel like I need to pause the video every couple of seconds to avoid getting a headache. R&S could get really insane and over the top too, but it knew when to have restraint so those moments would hit harder. For better or for worse, this is just having the gas pedal to the floor for the entire runtime.
I respect the labor that has gone into this. This is clearly a love letter of animation and it's cool he was able to get so many big names of the era attached. I just wish I liked it more

Bullet Time had actual effort and was a passion project, even if you don’t like the overstimuli you gotta admit there’s some real talent behind this like
>veteran voice actor Eric Bauza
>Spumco alumni Bob Jacques, Kelly Armstrong, and Chris Ross
>Modern SpongeBob alumni Keegan Tsetta
>Ren & Stimpy-inspired internet animator Dorkymations
>Danny Elfman, who has composed songs for Tim Burton films
>Internet horror artist David Firth

This feels like a cool combination of a 90’s cartoon and a Newgrounds cartoon, like I said before, it’s cool to see internet cartoonists work with the professionals, and I can see the talented people around the whole Dorkymations circle having a bright career ahead of them.

This is exactly how I imagined this show would turn out weeks ago. The episode is only 9 minutes long but it feels like 80 hours because of how overstimulating it is. I guess it's cool that these indie animators are trying to bring that 90s feeling back but WHERE. ARE. THE JOKES? Am I supposed to be laughing at the dog screaming all the time? I don't know...

Do You think Eric Bauza threw John Kricfalusi under the bus after the accusations? or he still calls him in private? He was one of the biggest John K dicksuckers during the early 2000s and in his old blog not only did he always defended John K and had a link to John K's blog, but he also claimed that John K is the one who got him into the voice acting business and that he won't even have a career without John

It really is shocking sometimes to see the end result of somebody's months of work turn out to be so horrid in terms of audio clarity and have such bad pacing when it comes to actually timing each scene either narratively or comedically.
This is what happens when autism doesn't jive and runs unchecked. Pacing goes out the window and my interest in characters is nonexistent.
Fitting for IGN.

Yep. Reminds me of Zeurel and Vivzie. I mean maybe they are slightly less worse but they alongside Murder Drones and TADC, all have some varying degree of being unwilling to let scenes simmer and play out. TADC probably has this issue less but then I go back and watch that weird interstitial nonsense in one episode that is just the meme of jangling keys to get people to pay attention and say the animation is good.
I mean I value animation but I don't know if was running a studio that I would want them. Kinda just a fundamental lack of understanding about stories. Like if you're willing to put that type of Reddit shit in where you won't let a cohesive episode with tight pacing be let through that also is willing to go deep onto one specific issue beyond the tired stories we get nowadays of mental health BS then you're just noise to me. And I don't mean deep as uncomedic I just mean writing has to go beyond the commentary of past shows in the 90's and try to actually do something new. Like go deep on some joke that is more unexpected, or make your world a unique sci-fi idea but then extrapolate it further and further.

Murder Drones was great, if short.
TADC is like halfway through, so this is a weird post. Reads like you haven't actually looked any deeper into either of those shows. Murder Drones is moreso the story focus that you're looking for.

But you are right that these indie series are very, very fast paced. But that's moreso a consequence of how making these indie series works.

I'm trying to write a book that one day might get adapted into a cartoon and media in general relies so much on writing. I like to criticize these indie cartoons because they are the chief shit inspiring younger gens. We could debate all day whether I'm butthurt or not about the success but you didn't really refute my criticisms at all with specific examples because you're not passionate enough to actually care about the details of a story, only the aesthetic shit.
The reason I brought all them up is because they are all following a trend of catching attention rather than actual story depth or direction.
>>149560874
>TADC is halfway
Yeah don't make me post that pic of the stick figure seeing shit coming out onto his plate and the other stick saying he can't possibly tell if it will be shit or not.
Yeah I watched those shows. Maybe Murder Drones does fulfill that interesting sci-fi idea but then it just focuses on shit I don't care about and thinks the characters are interesting enough instead of just a mass of quirks and "some" serious moments.
Then they get "some" development where they just see eye to eye again or get into a relationship or whatever. Yeah I misremember most of it but basically it doesn't actually have any conflict that means anything beyond what a story entails of having characters have a problem and then fixing that vague problem.
Escapism is fine that is not what I'm arguing against but I'm saying that shit was cool aesthetic ideas that went nowhere except generic ends. Not much separating it from generic slop we get on Netflix. I'm not expecting Shakespeare, only some writing beyond college level stuff.
Also they're fast paced? Then direct it to where its cheaper and still has more story stuff going on and if it's cheaper more thought out shots then there's more length and sometimes that creates more substance to the story.

really needed some tightening on storyboard or script to be more cohesive, it's hard to get into the jokes when I'm not parsing what's even happening to begin- not in a "it's too visually busy" sense but in "what is this concept" sense. he's a dog who lives in a idyllic beach. he wakes up in horror thinking a monster is here but it's actually... a robot? the robot also seems to be his friend? the robot says he has a tournament to go play. there's a random girl in the timer of the tournament telling him to play better? the robot is inside the game? the timer girl keeps telling the robot to be there to help? the dog just keeps mashing buttons and eating and it's not apparent when he's doing good or bad? the robot takes gems from inside the game? oh, the random girl is actually a streamer, not in the game itself, but the layout made that unreadable? the girl kept acting like the robot was essential to keep the dog under control but the robot then does nothing? the dog's innards are his dad? the dad doesn't want to be eaten despite being food that was already inside him?

Everything only starting being understandable at the very end

I don't know a huge amount about all the others, but Murder Drones specifically is a very show-don't-tell series that rewards paying close attention and thus increased investment in the characters and what happens to them. Especially after months of following these indie productions pretty long episode release times where there's a lot of discussion in between. It's something you're either into or you're not. And I think you are being overly cynical, because I believe if you actually settled down and gave things like this a chance you'd find they're much more like what you're looking for in a show than you realize.

This may be true for other examples of indie cartoons that you're neglecting by lumping them all into the same bubble. You're being unnecessarily reductive, even if your initial criticism is sound. None of these series are perfect by any means. But Murder Drones, for example, genuinely has a great little story going on despite the flaws you may or may not end up being all right with as it's quite short in episode count, and very fast paced. But this can be alleviated with rewatches and catching details which is why people that do end up giving it a chance tend to end up liking it so much.
Either way I think you should just enjoy what you enjoy. There's always the possibility you might just be out of the intended audience range, a lot of these shows cater to the 13 - 22 year old crowd.
