It's just as much on Galactus as it is her. I'm not going to apologize for a life time of knowledge from the comics. The scene looked fine, the effects were cool, but Invisible Woman scratching Galactus is laughable in my head for these fictional characters. The Power Cosmic just trumps in most situations.I hold the origins dear while Hollywood insists to make characters embarrassed of their heritage. The Thing saying it's clobberin' time bringing shame is an easy example from the same movie. Silver Surfer as a girl... just why, what did that bring to the table? It was a heroic moment, that's fine to say, but Sue Storm pushing Galactus was laughable, Galactus just physically stretching Reed to his limit was laughable. Who ever did the casting was trying to prove something I didn't ask for. I dare anyone to find an image similar to Ricardo Richards. I think it's funny that the art for main character had to be something completely new to accommodate the actor having no likeness. Ultimately though, it was a decent attempt at things, I'm not disgusted by the movie. Galactus looked cool and that's a big win. I liked the fifties nuclear family vibes they went for. I liked the costumes enough. There was a lot that they did alright... and things haven't been too great in the movies lately IMO.

He's not a villain to hinge that type of narrative around. Galactus is not a personal threat, at least not one that imposes a direct ideological conflict with the heroes like MCU Thanos is. The best Galactus stories show him to be more akin to a natural disaster, something that you can't defeat by punching him. To get rid of him requires a more creative solution, and that's why the FF are better foes for him. They're scientists-explorers before superheroes, so that line of work is better suited there.

She doesn't even need to be powerful enough to out-muscle, all she has to do is create a force field inside Galactus's skull that separates his brain from his spinal column. Boom, problem solved. Shitty writers and/or people with no combat experience don't understand that fights aren't about out-muscling the other guy.

Sue giving everything she has to push Galactus a few feet down the street, with the help of the others, and then dying from the exhaustion? I'm good with it.

My problem is that Marvel nerfs these big villains in other ways. Galactus felt really underwhelming compared to the Celestials in The Eternals and he shouldn't have. He supposedly has the power cosmic but never displays any abilities other than "be big". He lumbers around like a giant asshole, not a space god. They could have had him walking on the air like in the comics, passing through every obstacle. He could have looked towards Franklin and telekinetically pulled him to himself, or teleported him into his hands, made him intangible so the others couldn't touch him to stop it, lots of weird things. Instead he has to slowly walk up to the building, tear a hole in it, reach in with his hand, and pick up the baby.

It's the same with Thanos. In the comics he has all kinds of weird powers and tech but in the film he's just Purple Hulk. He's a big tough strong guy who punches things. It makes them feel underwhelming, it's visually uninteresting, and it's boring. I get that the writers don't want to deal with having these characters have all kinds of weird overpowered abilities but you're writing a story about an unstoppable cosmic entity that eats planets. You kind of have to embrace that shit.

...why keep the suit on, though? It didn't boost her power or give her better control. A psionic doesn't need to suit up and strike dramatic poses, they can end a threat in plain clothes while pretending to cower like everyone around them. They can make it looks like a threat just fumbled and messed up their own caper.

Let me guess: Reed helped him out a couple times and solved some issues he had that had the beneficial effect of turning him away from consuming Earth at those times.

About galactus, I've been wondering. Does he really need to consume planets THEMSELVES, or is he just some super carnivore, who looks for planets that have a certain minimum amount of meat-based life on them before he goes in for a protein snack? If a planet were evacuated before he nomed it, would it still satisfy him?

I’m dead serious. Ripley and Sarah Connor are cultural icons. X-Men 2, a mostly female led movie, is the most popular FoX-Men film. Then when people start criticizing shitty modern writing that creates shit characters like Rey and Carol Danvers, all of sudden they’re evil bigots who want women to be second class citizens. Then you people go as far as to claim women weren’t treated fairly before 2020. You’re dishonest and very evil people.

I'll try to explain it in terms you can understand.

*clears throat*

Me can see Gohan as extension of me self because me have peepee and Gohan have peepee. Sue no have peepee, so me no can see Sue as extension of me self. If someone am extension of me self, then everything they do good, because they me, and me good. But if someone no extension of me self, then everything they do bad, because they no me, and no me bad.

Does that explain it, or should I try grunting and gesturing?

at-will full spectrum invisibility and basically unlimited force-field manipulation has always been a retardedly strong power set, it's kind of like magneto being "master of magnetism" is fucking broken once you start actually exploring what you can do with it and how magnetism is literally a fundamental force of reality not just throwing construction equipment at people.
Reed barely uses his powers even in the comics compared to his super-science, he pretty much never goes full toonforce/luffy knockoff with stretching and has been uncreative with it for decades (the Maker literally doesn't even bother with his stretchy powers 95% of the time when doing "Reed as a villain" too), Johnny can fly and shoot fire at people in a world where half the supers are immune to fire and like 80% can fly on top of actual powers.

The Thing is probably the most screwed over since he's one of the OG powerhouses but he's limited since he's always written as super strong but not THAT strong and while he's tough, he's "big scary rock guy" tough and not "unstoppable force meets immoveable object" tough and regularly gets his shit kicked in by people who are simply bigger and stronger than rocks. Recently in One World Under Doom he was temporarily cured of rock form and nearly died being shot by a mugger, like he's a nice guy but he's no world ending threat.

Female surfer allows for Johnny's womanizer nature to be brought up without having to shove in a bunch of extra set pieces and beat it over the head of the dense.

You can't watch these movies and expect them to hold origins. Just setup for disappointment.

I'm more amazed they showed off all the member's actually being pretty smart in their own right instead of Reed's nepo babies. Biggest disappointment is Thing not having his more new yorkish accent, Galactus being shown as vindictive, Doom, and the fact this shit is going to be shoved into the MCU proper.

He needs planets that support life. When he was younger he could just eat a life planet or two and being good for centuries. Hunger reved up and eventually seeking became a full time job which gave little time for finding ones w/o life.

Its been shown before that species with enough tech can flee the planet he sets sights on and he won't give chase. Think there was one story arc where a bunch of different citizens of planets he ate try to get revenge and hold a trail.

The whole sucking life force thing is what causes the planet to collapse and just become space dust.

Any of their powersets could be broken, it's just that Invisible Woman is the only one whose powers are really taken to their logical conclusion/aren't limited in any meaningful way. Like you said, she's the only one who's really gotten the "Magneto treatment".

You can definitely make Human Torch top tier because you can make his fire arbitrarily hot until you get to "he has the power of a sun!" or some hyperbolic shit like that, and you can make his flight ultra fast. There are top tiers in Marvel whose schtick is being super strong/tough, but to your point, The Thing isn't really allowed to be THAT strong and tough. Invisible Woman is the only one of the four who's sort of the "Best in Class" for her powerset, where the idea is supposed to be that they're a team who tackle the big threats together.

Thats a future thing that changes with comics since Marvel is rooted at a set time and past that is what if material. In some it just means until radical thing happens and he transforms into creator of worlds. Others comes about due to his death and essentially creating a big bang to repeat the cycle that made him.

Another Franklin essentially takes on the role, makes Galactus the herald and they run around reseeding life.

>>Gohan kills Cell, a villain more powerful than him, with sheer willpower
He needed Vegeta to distract him, and it was one the hypest things to ever watch as a kid

People bitch about 'le hundred episode fights' and rightly so.
But if there is one sunny spot, all that build-up makes the heroic turnabout feel more dramatic and deserved.
(Irrespective of whether that payoff was actually earned)

Wasn't Gohan only able to take out Cell because Vegeta basically sucker punched him?

Gohan was cool and Susan was lame. Same way Luke was cool and Rey was lame.
Faggots trying to argue wether it is or isn't plausible in the story are a bunch of insecure pussies who feel the need to give an "objective" reason as to why they like or don't like something. Buncha autists.
Gohan killing Cell was great. It had great visuals, great sound design, it itself had a little story with Vegeta being the one to actually push the tide on Gohan's favor. It just looked cool.
Invicible Girl, on the other hand, is some cheap cgi vomit. If she was screaming her lungs out, visible suffering from over exerting her powers, if her powers looked more flashy, if Galactus looked more defeated, if the scene had some fucking life, it'd be cool. But it's lame.
