Havenโt the Warrior cats lady pretty well cornered the market in the niche dragon books(and comics) for snot nosed kids?
The number of dergs foug of WOF I could start posting here is an obnoxiously long one.
Post the fatty drawings of dragon Maleficent
>>149620756I hated this short so much. The story is ass. Wow look at the princess falling in love with the NERD rejecting the psycho bad boy. Don't say "Well he was going to kill the princess" WOMEN love being killed by bad boys.
Didn't like how the bad boy was turned into the Dragon Mother's replacement son. The story is all about subversion and in turn it leaves you with no likable characters. I just felt bad for the bad boy because his only crime is not being nice to dragons who are indeed beastly. Now he's robbed of his humanity forced to be a baby dragon.

Jackson Smaug's only flaw was having four limbs instead of six.

I was just working on a dragon, so I'm going to post that.
On a related note, in your subjective opinion, is it mandatory for a dragon to have horns?
>>149632795Probably not? Iโll have to think on it and try to recall any particular instances where the lack of was fine or a negative
>>149632795Horns no. I've seen instead fins and stuff.
>>149632795No, of course not mandatory, lots of good dragon designs have things other than horns like fins or frills or play up the snakey look
But horns are great so I generally prefer them anyway
>>149631938What do you think about her voice?
>>149633495Maybe a smidge too much old-affectation from HBC but her mannerisms are adorable, particularly when she's obliviously giving the MC blatantly wrong woo'ing tips

The Sword in the Stone? The movie that image is from?
>>149647499Oh lol now I remember. I watched it, it just was a long time ago. I remember it more for the squirrel part.
>>149647486Speaking of Tolkien, we really need a Silmarillion cartoon. An animated series is the only way to do the book justice: there's too much material for a movie or even a series of movies, and there's things in it like the creation sequence that would look much better in animation than live-action CGI.
And, of course, it would give us an animated version of Glaurung, one of the greatest dragons in fiction.

>>149649816You'll have very low power and be either Loli or shota, spending most of your first century either asleep or tired, trying to dream your way up to the natural power level of a dragon if I had used magic to alter your existence right now
Very low failure rate actually. Just a minor risk of breaking your nap in the first decade, which deages you a couple years when the transformation magic breaks

>>149662506This line doesn't go far enough in either direction.

>>149665614Agreed, he didn't even have a weapon to use. >>149680264I dunno about you, but this thread has been extremely helpful in teaching me what to avoid when I design dragons, so I don't attract these people.
This was posted as a reply to a forum thread question - "What are your first thoughts when you think about Dragons?" - at the old defunct Scalie site, "Herpy".
It may be of interest here.
Due to 4chan limits on post size, this will be in four parts.
First Thoughts, part 1.
First thoughts?
Well...
I think of them a lot as a somewhat Avian analogue: their wings, their flight, their grotesque beauty (a totally POSITIVE word here), their bipedal capability, their intelligence.
And of course, as a "biologist", I think a LOT about their reproductive and excretory systems!
But now, some "second" thoughts.
That wasn't always the case though. When I was a child, I was brought up in the usual Anglo-politico-religious "old world" tradition of biblical & church dogma, allegory, symbolism, and other fairy tales. Invariably, the Dragon was depicted as predatory, rapacious, wanton, greedy, cruel, homicidal, immoral, and every other facet of evil that could be thrown at them.
Of course this one-dimensional stereotype was "balanced" by the equally shallow "knight-in-shining-armor", the "damsel-in-distress", the insipid "prince charming", and the equally insipid & interchangeable king and his court.
(Same bum rap as with the "big bad" Wolf, but that's for another forum).
(Part 2 next)
First Thoughts, part 2.
But as time went on, things changed. Not only did I grow beyond - not exactly "out of" - childhood, but with the blossoming of modern mythology and fantasy in the mid 20th century, Dragons began to be presented in new and different ways. Smaug from "The Hobbit", for example, was of evil origins, but he was shrewd, intelligent, and quite willing and able to engage in a one-on-one dialogue with a stranger.
A tiny, yet very obvious change from the purely evil stereotype of the times - indeed, decades before it burst forth in popular culture in the late sixties. During that time, "Puff the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary was capturing the hearts of listeners of all ages, and the movie, "Pete's Dragon" (the original) followed in a similar, if not quite so inspiring mold.
But it would be the awakening of my interest in Birds, especially Vultures, that would fling open the doors for me to a more rich and varied "world" of Dragons. Soon we got to see the amazing imagery of Roger Dean and the rich variety of the Dragons in Anne McCaffrey's "Pern" novels. And with the greater "opening" of China and other Asian nations & cultures, came a new-to-us and yet ancient pantheon of Dragons, which were overwhelmingly intelligent, benevolent, and wise.
(Part 3, next)
First Thoughts, part 3.
It wasn't exactly a smooth progression though. Vermithrax Pejorative, the Dragon from the movie "Dragonslayer" was presented as wholly evil and devoid of any redeeming or "humane" character, a slickly made rehash of the old stereotypes (indeed, the word "pejorative" in his name, means "insulting"). Many of the depictions of them in the Harry Potter books & movies were also a step backwards.
But there was also Draco, the good but tragically cursed Dragon from "Dragonheart". And the heroic, friendly, loyal, wise, and totally loveable Falkor, the Oriental-based LuckDragon from "The Neverending Story". And in recent times. there was the entire "How To Train Your Dragon" franchise.
And Epcot's Figment. How many children of all ages have been moved and inpired by that little Dragon's message of "We all have sparks, imaginations. That's how our minds create creations. For they can make our wildest dreams come true. Those magic sparks, in me and you."
But the biggest change for Dragons came from the rise of "non-linear" communications and media. Beginning with the advent of the multi-dimensional "Dungeons and Dragons", it would eventually burst out with first arcade, then home-based videogames, then the internet and the World Wide Web.
And with websites like Herpy, the breakthrough continued in all new directions that could scarcely be imagined in my childhood time, outside of the prison of one's individual thoughts, that one dare not share.
(Part 4, the final part, next)
First Thoughts, part 4, the last part.
And so here I am, on the eve of my sixtieth trip around the Sun, and the world of Dragons & their adversaries that I knew as a kid, is gone. Today, I see a world of Dragons that has became so much more varied, so much richer, so much more visceral.
And so much more complicated!
Dragons, and our other myths and legends may not be "real" in the tangible or biological sense, but they reflect a very legitimate and very important reality.
They LITERALLY reflect it.
For they are a mirror of us. Everything we see in Dragons and the other denizens of our individual and collective mythos is ultimately a reflection of us: our lowest failings and our highest aspirations, our deepest fears and our greatest ecstasy, our most nagging regrets and our fondest wishes.
And everything in-between.
We as both individuals and as a society have grown, and our Dragons have grown with us. They embody our bad, but also our good.
And since they have gone from nearly wholly bad to often good, I find that last thought very encouraging!
So in THAT sense, I see Dragons as very "real". We may never get to touch them, but as a creation by us and from us, they ARE us!
And always very close by.
Now where, by my tailfeathers, did I stash that pile of gold, silver and wizard's crystals?

Don't get me wrong, I like wyverns. Four limbs (two wings and two legs) makes sense for a dragon. My gripe with wyverns is that they're considered to be the more "plausible" kind of dragon.
Leaving aside the whole argument on whether or not it makes sense to want a dragon to be "realistic" - the way wyverns are usually portrayed is consistent in their posture.
Wyverns have this sort of squatting, bat-like posture. It makes them hunched-over, scary, etc. But let's examine why bats have this posture. Bats have this posture because they're very small. They don't walk very well, if ever, and instead of resting on the ground where they're easy prey, they rest by hanging from things. Walls, tree bark, branches, roofs, you name it. A wide, hunched stance helps them cling to vertical surfaces.
Meanwhile, a wyvern is by most animal standards, enormous. They can't cling from anything, or hang from anything, they would simply be too heavy. Therefore, giving an animal the size of an elephant the same posture as a bat is to me, nonsensical, and far from plausible.
Instead, as large noble creatures, they should have a more upright posture. We already have examples of enormous flying reptiles, the Azhdarchids, and it shows a clear, upright, giraffoid posture that also enabled them to move with grace and majesty.
In my opinion, more wyverns should be portrayed as such. It crosses the bridge between the squatting wyvern and the more noble, six-limbed design perfectly. Plus it's just more plausible.

The problem is the people I see who own dragon statues, stuffed animals, or pictures are /thee/ biggest weirdos. More recently: a 40-something autist whose room looked like it belonged to a child, and an elderly woman with severe mental issues and is probably on drugs.
I know this sounds judgy as fuck but it's making me feel really self-conscious about my own interests. I think I'm pretty good at hiding my power level, but I've been open about liking dragons and now I'm wondering if I look like a fucking retard whenever it comes up.
Idk. I know I need to be confident in myself and own what I like, but I just want to see a few normal-ass people with a sensible way to show their appreciation for dragons and fantasy shit. But it never happens.

Not to mention unless you're trying to mate with a wild dragon (good fucking luck bud) it's assumed you'd be fucking the dragon you're paired with, which means you both share thoughts, emotions, and feelings.
