The boomer art it starts off with is very rough, but as soon as Glenn Fabry gets on board in TPB2 you're in for giga-kino on every single page. David Pugh who filled in every now and then was far from Fabry's level as an artist, you could even say he was much worse, but he had a certain flair for the grotesque that comic often ran on, and a grittiness somewhat reminding of Joakim Pirinen's work (an exemplary and rather unique b&w artist: https://www.tcj.com/teddy-bears-and-ink-joakim-pirinen/).

There's a handful of webcomic classics that ran in black and white, Digger is one. Zebra Girl is another, that occasionally hit almost Cerebus-levels of illustration, the longer it ran (the goddamn 90s resolution forces you to zoom the pages though).

Read The Hollow Grounds and 12 La Douce/Atlantic 12 as well. I would say to read the one-shot of Blake and Mortimer that Schuiten did too, The Last Pharaoh, but note that the story is not very good, I think there were 4 writers working on it so it's a mess, and the only English version was done with MTL by a literal pajeet.

To actually speak about the thread subject, while I like B&W comics, I wouldn't say they're superior, there is nothing inherent in being colourless that makes them better. You have to look at them as a complete work of art and things need to be intended as black and white to begin with for it to make sense. Certain works and styles of art I will agree work better in B&W, the colour just covers up or distracts from a lot of the work. In that sense, maybe you could say it takes more skill for an artist to work in B&W, since their linework has to be that much better if it's not going to be pulled up by colour, I wouldn't agree though.
