It was when services like Kickstarter and Patreon were still relatively new and hadn't yet been completely inundated with slop producers and outright scammers. Artists had actual routes to making their passion projects modestly profitable and so a lot of people were off starting up webcomics. Not all of them were hits, but there were enough popular ones updating on a regular basis that /co/ was never short of things to discuss.

I assume he's talking about GoComics, not Patreon stuff - GC only lets you view like 2-3 pages back now unless you pay. I was actually archiving most of Endtown for a while (I've got about 2000ish pages, basically everything up through the start of the last arc with Wally and the colony) but as soon as the paywall on GC went up that effort stopped dead in its tracks. It was a light-hearted look at serious issues and knew how to treat things with a surprising level of respect. Tackled everything from love to politics to religion with an almost bizarre level of tact and did so with a solid art style that often got highly experimental when the creator felt like it. It reached peak popularity during a romance arc where a demon girl fell in love with a book nerd and was trying to leave Hell behind, an arc that was abruptly interrupted by a girl on a tricycle suddenly showing up and screaming about the patriarchy. There's literally an exact comic where you can see when his mind snapped.

Vorefaggotry can be a bit difficult to work with for a comic. A lot of existing vore "comics" tend to either follow someone eating or getting eaten, sorta folloing the structure of a horror movie where the killer wins or a modern TV serial about a serial killer. On the other hand you have genuine vore comics which aren't quite about a horror movie creature or serial killer, which surprisingly do not necessarily focus on vore a lot because that can be hard to do.
