I see it as more side adventures and then a continuation when the series ends. I don't know if they contradict the show in any way. The most notable thing is that they used Wonder Girl when the show couldn't while it was airing.

Kind of but not really. I think they were just amazed at seeing someone who could change forms, the Japanese are weird with their fetishes after all. Maybe it would matter if Beast Boy actually decided to stay in Japan and date one of them.
