Seasons 5-7 are the peak. Most interesting, creative episodes came in that period. Most duds too tbf. Seasons 2-3 were also great. Good stuff throughout.

I respect this opinion. Cutting off 3/4 (especially 3) always seemed stupid to me if you liked seasons 1-2. The tone of 2-3 are perfect "classic AT." Season 1 has gems, but is finding its footing a bit.

AT doesn't have "a story." It has storylines, which sometimes interwine with each other, but there is no overarching narrative. The closest thing it has is Finn's coming of age. Mostly, it's an episodic slife-of-life. Even as it gets more serialized towards the end, there is no single storyline you can point to as being "the story." Which explains why the finale was a clusterfuck of like 4 different storylines. The frustration people experience with "the story" meandering comes from a misunderstanding of what adventure time is. Or they just don't like what it is. But it's not a mistake, or "identity crisis." AT never intended to be an epic story of Finn vs The Lich that some people wish it was.
related: I fucking hate "filler" lists with a passion. If you're gonna skip eps like We Fixed A Truck or Football for not being """story""" then don't watch the show.
