For a movie that's supposedly bad, it did pretty well at the box office.

The animation in this film is underrated, sure it’s a bit held back by the limited technology at the time but I love how fluid and cartoony it looks, trying to add in that 2D appeal and give the film a more stylized look rather than a realistic one like Pixar and Dreamworks were trying to do at the time. It almost seems like the prototype for stylized 3D films like Cloudy and Hotel Transylvania.

Bad movies doing well at the box office isn't exactly uncommon.

The cult classic era of Disney. 12 movies and the only iconic one is Lilo & Stitch.

A lot of the hatred comes from the "THEY KILLED 2D ANIMATION FOR THIS CRAP?" reaction from the Disney Adults of the time. Like this movie's existence was one of the biggest driving forces in getting Eisner's ass out of the company.
