I liked it, but I can still recognise it suffered from the exact same problems as Samurai Jack S5. A previously episodic series became more narrative-heavy, a love interest took over the plot, and the resolution was very abrupt.
The problems with the ending are particularly important. The ending affects how the entire series is judged in retrospect. A powerful ending can salvage a mediocre work, and a shitty ending can ruin an otherwise good story.
Also, in hindsight the problems could've been fixed so easily. Cut out Primal Theory and you get more time to drag out the final battle. And modify or even remove the ship arc, because it contributed nothing to the main plot with the vikings.
With the Unicorn series providing another comparison point, it seems like Genndy struggles to write series that have season-long storyarcs. Or depending on the quality of Fixed, perhaps his writing skills as a whole have degraded? Maybe he's hit a point where people think that Genndy's name alone will sell anything, and they give him too much artistic freedom, when they should be providing criticism and constraints that help him improve his works.
