What Julius did to the Gauls would be considered a war crime today.

Man, wars used to be based! Then those crying heart liberals at Uruk decided "killing is bad!" and started instead enslaving people.
Now those damned slaves are taking away jobs from farmers and miners, where is our society going to at this rate!?

The French did not settle the area yet, they came in after Caesar cleared out the Gauls.

They were more like continental Welshmen.

Modern French are actually still significantly Gaulish in their DNA. Romans didn't leave much of a genetic imprint on them, though.

The Bible literally says genocide is good as long as your side wins (Numbers, Deuteronomy, etc.). Things like rules of engagement and the Geneva convention are extremely modern inventions.

It's always funny how American "Christians" (a pure contradiciton in terms if there ever was one) only consider the Old Testament part of the Bible when it suits them. The Old Testament is literally one half of the Bible. It's a divinely inspired document just like the New Testament. The whole thing, not just the specific parts and phrases that suit your fragile modern sensibilities and prejudices.

Not how it works, ignorant degenerate. The Old Testament lays the framework that the New Testament builds upon. One literally cannot exist without the other. You'd know that if you'd ever read the Bible instead of just mindlessly shitting on it with your purple-haired friends.

How?

Sins comes from intervention of Satan during Creation. This is why world is flawed. Reason for that has different explanations, but most commons is that God allow evil to give people a choice.

When Christ is killied by people, he is more killed by evil in them. But God let people to do that, only to forgive them.

He says, "Just as I don't choose revenge, you don't have to choose sin. I sacrifice myself, just as you sacrifice yourself by not choosing sin." This is a departure from the old rhetoric of God, who demands and punishes disobedience.

I think this is quite clear. Therefore, the real question is different: Why didn't God give people Christ immediately? This has been explained in various ways. For example, Jung argued that after Job, God matured morally for Christ. Personally, however, I believe that even if humanity was condemned to sin, it was not intellectually ready for Christ for a long time. The Old Testament was the book of childhood humanity; the New Testament is the book of self-aware humanity.

You probably don't know this, but subsequent software versions build on previous ones. In other words, 2.0 encompasses 1.0.

Whether or not they were consistently applied, magnanimous rules of warfare have fairly old precedents.

From "The Concept in Hinduism of 'Just War'" by Surya P. Subedi, in 'Journal of Conflict & Security Law', Vol. 8, No. 2 (October 2003), pp. 355-356:

>As summarized by Sastry, the most frequently cited rules of the Hindu laws of war are as follows:

>1. A warrior in armour must not fight with another warrior without armour.
>2. Fighting should be on a one-to-one basis and one should stop fighting when the opponent becomes disabled.
>3. Warriors should fight only with their equals, e.g., cavalry soldiers should not attack a chariot-warrior.
>4. Poisoned or barbed arrows should not be used.
>5. A weak or wounded man should not be killed, nor one who has no son.
>6. He whose weapon is broken or whose bowstring is cut or who has lost his chariot should not be hit.
>7. One who surrenders should not be killed, but he can be captured as a prisoner of war.
>8. A King should fight only with a King.
>9. Aged men, women of all ages, children, and those in retreat should not be killed.
>10. The panic-stricken and retreating foe should not be pursued hotly.
>11. The sleepy, the thirsty, a peaceful citizen walking along the road, the insane, one engaged in eating, a camp-follower, a war musician, and the guards at the gates should not be killed.
>12. Spectators and other non-combatants should not be fought against, nor those hiding themselves in fear.
>13. Gardens, temples and other places of public worship should be left unmolested.
>14. Prisoners of war should be treated humanely.
>15. A wounded prisoner should either be sent home or should have his wounds attended to.
>16. When a fort can be captured by other means, no attempt should be made to set fire to it, for fire will cause indiscriminate damage.
>17. Fighting should not take place at night.
>18. In order to be strictly in accordance with dharma the place and time of battle must be specified beforehand.
