It is impressive, to introduce a plothole that large and gaping into the structural center of the narrative. I guess glossing over b-plots and dropping side characters got boring after a while.

But anon, if Sue just presumed that Lucy delayed "moving" to not upset her, then that would mean Lucy's suicide attempt and failure to communicate were short-sighted, selfish, and hurtful to her friends and family, but they're barely characters.
Lucy confirming that she WAS in fact thinking about how it'd effect Sue even though we saw Lucy at the time and she never brought up Sue, or any of her friends, her every thought was about Mike or trying to find someone to replace the Mike-shaped hole in her heart helps bring across how kind, and selfless, and sweet Lucy really is to her friends! Despite the fact that apparently Lucy thinks they're NOT her friends, and never were, and she wishes they'd just leave her alone.
