Unless I failed to read part of the God of War II novel, I don't believe Kratos ever held up the world.
In Chains of Olympus, Kratos doesn't so much fight Atlas off as much as he kicks the anchors in Atlas' manacles to attach to the bottom of the Greek overworld. Which I have to assume is held in place by some sort of magic, since Atlas with one hand in GoWII threaten to crush Kratos between his finger and thumb alone.
Since Atlas has four arms and is mostly bearing the world plate with his shoulders and back, I don't think any single arm is doing a majority of the work, let alone any of his fingers.

In Chains of Olympus we have no idea because we are never actually shown what is inside Atlas' hand.
The plot is an absolute mess in that regard. Helios gets kidnapped which causes the Sun to disappear, but defeating Persephone and stopping her plot ends up having Kratos riding the sun chariot back into the sky (so placing the sun back in the sky)
and then Helios with Athena are just there on the cliff that Kratos would later throw himself off at the end of GoW to slow Kratos' unconscious body from hitting the ground and to also take the gauntlet of Zeus from him.

Drags him through time and space to the best doctors who will ever live, risks his life to get him rare and limited medicines, etc. Other characters get mad at Superman because he's putting his limited time and these extremely rare resources to use saving one of the world's most evil men, and they're right to do so. Lex starts the story by killing dozens of people and sinking an island just to get Superman's attention.

In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow they're doing a riff on True Grit, but the villains of the story go around from planet to planet committing what the story describes as genocide. At the end of the story seemingly none of the main gang of genocideres face any punishment, the people who collaborate with the gang to exterminate a hated ethnicity face no punishment, and the guy who murdered the protagonist's father for no reason and then joined the genocide pirates gets a whole speech about how it's immoral to kill him, so they instead stick him in the Phantom Zone, which in every other story is both torture and doesn't do anything to reform the prisoners, but hooray, just this once the guy who helped kill billions of innocent people actually turned nice from centuries of solitary confinement.
