I'm trucking on. I planned to make my releases shorter, but with better art, but that's not quite panning out.
My comic: https://globalcomix.com/read/003eb87f-2c70-49dd-9710-87b5d5d03a19/21
Maybe in the future I'll post to more sites, but right now I'm content to just have it out there somewhere.
>>149714656I did a bit of paneling yesterday and I quit because it was shit
>>149715037>quit because it was shitYou're never going to improve if you quit that easily. So what if it's shit? I'm sure you can take something from the experience and turn that into something less shit
>>149715037You did the right thing by quitting. If you fail at first, that means you'll never one day do it right.

Posted it in the other active thread but may as well post it here. Tell me what you think of the first 33 pages of my comic so far. Im around up to page 40 right now.
Trying to set up my characters first, and the parts I'm drawing now is the main plot being started, with our 2 main characters finding themselves at the pier from the start

>>149719621holy fuck...
on a serious note, i keep the motivation up seeing the results of my work, its rewarding enough for me
>>149717843>How do you guys stay motivated in the summerI intentionally slow down on the comics front knowing that I'll have more time for it in the winter. Summer is fleeting but the grind is FOREVER.
I have an idea for a webcomic, but I lack any artistic talent. It's a gag comic where a fez hat wearing alien with a Superman-esque backstory runs a comic book shop in 1990's Toronto by day, and is a bumbling superhero by night.
>>149714277 (OP)>hywGetting ready to start production on Issue 5. I spent the last few months reading some comics I liked and tried to emulate things I liked and pacing better than I did before. So far, from those who read it, I'm doing well.
>>149714909>GlobalcomixI'm with them too. What do you think about their news of the print on demand?

>>149719661Oh hey, I still have your fan art. Thanks again for that
Dunno why you made Techie fat, tho
And I wish I could have that sense of fulfillment with my work but I find it difficult on the best of days. Was raised in an environment where all of my hobbies/interests were to be kept strictly contained from everyone else or there'd be hell to pay, so I find expressing my ideas to be "wrong", for lack of a better term. Ive been working on it with therapy but it keeps me from picking up my stylus and just making crappy thumbnails for my art friend to work with. Not like im having to carve a damn Piรฉta every time

>>149736713That's a (you) problem. Thanks for bumping the thread at least.
>>149736670>I wonder what makes people be this sad, is a mental health issue or just being lonely?Loneliness is terrible for both mental and physical health. Can't be arsed to find it, but I'm pretty sure there was a study claiming loneliness can be as bad for you as smoking, which isn't great considering the loneliness epidemic we've had in the last ~5~ years or so. You know it's gotten bad when someone is at the point of seething about a webcomic thread on a Cambodian basket weaving forum lol.

>and/or is just an asshole fishing for (you)s
Anywhooooooo, to move on, what do you all think about update scheduling? I know each comic has it's own demands depending on style/coloring/what have you, but what's the best way to keep your readership up? At least once a week? More? I ask mostly because the comic my buddy and me are working on would be highly driven by the narrative and I want to make a quality story, but I also dont want to take a full year to release half a chapter, you know? Is there a happy middle ground to be found?
>>149738836I post chapter by chapter, as I complete them. I don't have a backlog to fall back on. Chapters are posted on a rough bi-monthly schedule.
>>149738587So, like, what's the long game with this schizo act? If you hated this thread so much there's way more effect ways to remove it instead of just bumping the thread but I'm guessing you're too young or too much of a newfag to know where Sage goes
>>149738836Nobody wants to see or read your shitty scribbles.
>>149738873The long game is that you need to fuck off.
>>149738836I've initially started off with a weekly upload schedule, then went with an "I'll upload it when it's ready" when I got better at comic making.
Now I just build a backlog of pages and release my pages weekly every Friday. It did help more with engagement to my comic and such. Now, I take a break, build a new big backlog while working on some other obligations.
>Nobody wants to see or read your shitty scribbles
Clearly you do, if you keep coming back. Im taking requests, whatcha wanna see?
>>149739367>Im taking requests, whatcha wanna see?I want to see you committing suicide. In real life, not a shitty drawing.

>>149739341How many pages per week would you say you put out then?
>>149738836>I post chapter by chapter, as I complete them.>>149738872Same. My readership is small but dedicated, so I'm not concerned by losing readers if I don't update every week. Usually I'll finish a batch of chapters then set them to upload 2- 3 weeks apart depending on how long they are.
>>149739683Why would I be jealous of the mentally ill? Oh no, I'm not a schizo, how terrible.
>>149739683Just ignore him. He'll get bored and move on to the next thread to bitch in
>>149739840Couldn't help but notice you couldn't respond when I pointed out how weak your trolling attempts are. Again, since you seem a little slow- we've had better, funnier crabs here before. Keep posting as you please, but it'll take more juice than you've got to make an impact here.
>picrel- an absolutely classic crashout after 1.5 years of trolling efforts
>>149739872I'll admit- I'm a bully and I get a kick out of punching down to let off steam, and this guy's a midget who painted an entire target on his head.
>>149739872>>149739934>these retards think this is trollingNo. These threads are an aberration and need to go away. This general is literally a bunch of smug entitled retards shilling at each other. That needs to fuck off and so do you.
>>149739697Currently, my comic is a bit on a slower pace with smaller chapters for this arc, roughly between 4-10 pages. So I release every Friday 1 page per week, bit of the old classic method of the olden days.
After this arc's done, I go back to more longer 20+ pages per chapter, which then I'd go and release 2-4 pages per week as an update, whatever works to not run out of my backlog too quickly without jerking the audience.
When I take the time, I can pump out 2-3 pages a week, so I can decently build a backlog.
Time to grind a little before bed, as a treat
My newest story, Admiral Pizza issue #9 The mystery of the mermaid killer. page 1. The second great war is over. The world is at peace.
The Admirals crew have gone their separate ways. Admiral pizza drinks a mermaid potion and turns into a mermaid for 24 hours, and goes undercover and underwater to find out, who is the

Conceptually I like horror. I like the idea of horror. I want to write a horror story but I don't know what scares people or how to convey it on the page.
Outside of Junji Ito stuff, what would be a good horror comic to take inspo from? What scares people?
>>149744714if you don't know about horror why are you asking about it?
Has anyone asked how Betz is doing this morning? It's been a whole 12 hours since he was mentioned and honestly I think /hyw/ might be going through withdrawal.
None of you will ever be successful.
>>149744714People have to relate to the characters and the situations to bond with them. Only then can you tell your scary story. And then it doesn't matter as long as you carefully fly below comedy.
In webcomic terms introduce your cast with light SoL jokes, make them emotional and just about shipping friendly. Consider the gimmicks you want to use and kill them off one by one. The thing to learn is how to stagger the whole affair and gradually increase stakes and suspense.

Panel before I leave McDonalds
So Iโm a comic artist and I have ideas for comics but I suck at writing.
Basically I have a vague concept, setting, and character designs, but suck at fleshing out character backgrounds and coming up with an actual plot for them.
I met a guy from a comic book shop who has the opposite problem. He wants to be a comic book writer but canโt draw. Iโm willing to pitch my comic idea to him but in case heโs not interested or canโt do it, I donโt want him to take my idea down the line and collaborate with another artist.
Granted my idea is not the most original, but itโs an idea I think would make for a fun comic.
What would I do in this situation? I asked if heโs willing to sign an NDA, which heโs agreed to do, but now Iโm wondering if that comes off as pretentious and if it actually would protect my idea.
>>149714277 (OP)I'm writing a synopsis for an eventual sequel.

>>149749772Honestly, it depends if your drawing skills are good enough to justify essentially being an "ideas guy" on the writing end. If you're above average or near- pro, then it's justified. Otherwise guys like you are a diamond dozen.
>>149750109The writer was very impressed with my artwork. Donโt think Iโm Marvel/DC professional level but Iโve had my fair share of commissions and even had an artist alley table at NYCC for a couple of years

Fuck it, first concept art of Chicago for my series. I'm new and I have lots to learn.
Currently planning out my webcomic's story out. The general pitch is this: "It is said in the sealed continent of Askr most adventurers either complete their first quest or die and fail to leave any impact on the world. The Crown Chasers, however, are not like most adventurers. You see, through a series of events that are, according to their leader, Roswitha Rask, mostly not their fault, Prince Cyril of Cernunnos, who they were tasked with guarding, was transformed into a squirrelicorn. Now the Crown Chasers are tasked with capturing the royal-turned-rodent before war breaks out between Cernunnos and its rival superpower, the Abhartach Empire. However, as they undertake their quest, they slowly begin to unravel a much greater conspiracy, with designs on Askr and even the world beyond the barrier."
What do you guys think? I have a whole conceit where the first 2 or 3 arcs take place on a continent that was sealed away from the rest of the world via a magic barrier around 200 years ago during a huge multiple continent spanning war. The barrier prevents living things from crossing through. The barrier, however, has been weakening over time and is set to fade away fully come the winter solstice (the story starts on the summer solstice). I plan for the continent to become unsealed by the end of the 2nd or third arc depending on how I divvy things up. Basically, after the Prince Cyril stuff is more or less wrapped up and another evil rears its head to the heroes. Any thoughts?
Do you think the sealed continent angle is abandoned too soon in the story? I do plan to have the fallout of the continent being unsealed play a major role throughout the rest of the story.
I also feel like my comic lacks a real gimmick to it or something to really give it a solid identity outside of it being a high fantasy comedy-action-adventure webcomic with anime and d&d inspirations. Any suggestions?
>>149719621>tips for powering thru those timesThis isn't /x/ so I'm not gonna go into too many details, but one thing with creative pursuits is that you can't force it. I don't do anything creative unless the juice is there, because otherwise I notice a giant drop in the quality of my work. I work in bursts when I'm truly inspired. You can't put creativity into a box and just power through it like it's robotic, grunt 9-5 wageslavery. Only thing you can do is try to put yourself in a position where the creative energy or inspiration is sort of "drawn" to you by establishing a certain pattern of living and thinking. As for the depression, you gotta remember that materializing nonphysical ideas via a mind-to-page transfer (for lack of a better term) can be very draining. You have to conserve your vitality.
>>149807312Not to shit on you too much but this sounds like it was repurposed from either an RPG maker game or a D&D campaign that never took off.
Also, you don't need a gimmick just solid art and writing. The biggest problem is it's hard to make a fantasy story feel new and fresh
>>149800293>>149800958Nice work, is that a brush pen or just a brush + ink?
>>149789303>Fantastic drawing, very fun as always! Thanks, working on the last cover to the current arc- inspired by the Muppet Movie finale

>>149808243Thanks! I use a generic clip studio paint g pen, but with a custom rectangular tip. Not trad, if that was your assumption.
>>149808026Yeah, Iโve been thinking it feels kinda derivative of dnd honestly. While I am primarily drawing inspiration from dnd, I feel like I havenโt done enough to give my webcomic its own identity. Any advice on how to do that?
>>149809386Characters got to have an arc no matter what the setting. Doesn't matter if you borrow every bit of sword and sorcery known to man, the stories that stick are the ones with characters that have an arc.
D&D style campaign storytelling is meant to go for a while so you don't get that kind of storytelling there.
The best thing I could think of would be to start with an archetypical character and then figure out where you want that character's story to end at.
For example: Young Knight Eager To Prove Himself --> A Man who Learns Strength Isn't Everything
