I'm one of the anons planning to donate copies to libraries and it turns out they're a bit picky with their review process, so it's gonna be a longer road than I anticipated. We need to get her to submit it to review boards if we want to streamline the process

these books are rearranged, they cover different amounts per book than the old editions. They're aiming to release 2 books a year for a suspected total of 8 books (but that's conjecture) so we're probably a year or two out from that arc

Possible but it'll probably be down to the wire, I don't think any of the previous Kickstarters broke that milestone.
Anonymous No.149718042 [Report]
Just went to my library and made a request that they purchase Unsounded. They wouldn't allow me to make a donation, but they've added it to their buy list. I just had to fill out a short thing about why I recommend it, where I heard about it, and who the target audience was.

The past ones hit about 70k at peak didn't they? I think it's reasonably likely especially if we have good stretch goals.

yeah, but none of the previous kickstarters were nearly this fast at hitting 50k, and this is also a much bigger deal since it's with a known partner publisher, with all the wider audience that implies

At this point it's not really a question of if we hit 100k but when. It probably won't be that fast, pledges have slowed considerably from the initial burst. But I bet there will be another big rush of pledges tomorrow with the next update.
Anonymous No.149719968 [Report] >>149720120

I was thinking it's good the epilogue is still going since the regular updates will get more visibility. I don't know where else the publisher and Cope are promoting this but it's well known at this point that a lot of social media platforms absolutely throttle your visibility especially if you aren't posting nonstop.
Anonymous No.149720120 [Report] >>149720144

I mostly agree. I think though it might be good if the comic finishes in the last week of the Kickstarter or so. I think a decent chunk of the readership is still RSS-based and only reads at the end of a chapter. If that's the case Ashley should really alert them that a Kickstarter is live. Otherwise there could be a bunch of people who miss out on backing just because they prefer to read all at once. Someone needs to get on her case to promote herself and send a notification to her RSS readers.

Ashley, you will make your fans so sad if they miss out. You have to do it!

I assume. But if it's not, she definitely needs to make sure she lets them know regardless. I don't think she did nearly enough to promote the Kickstarter leading up to it as is, even with the reception being, obviously, very strong. I know she wanted to make sure anyone on Patreon got a first shot of the extra commissions, but I think a vague countdown on the comic and Tumblr would've been a good idea to help drum up hype. As good as she is at writing a comic she is almost equally terrible at self promotion.

It's hard for me to imagine an animated Unsounded. Would it be a serial cartoon or short film(s)? What would get cut to make it fit into a reasonable viewing experience? Could it ever hope to live up to the comic itself? Who would Ashley bring on? Could she stand to give up the control?

And could you imagine showing Starfish's scenes nowadays? Where would the finished project be hosted? Nowhere would want to touch it.

I think the best we could hope for is a French short film that goes up to Ethemik. A good taste of the setting and adventure, the Red Berry Boys, hints of Ilganyag, and ending with Stockyard receiving Sette and Duane. Anything else would butcher the ip, but I don't believe anyone could do Unsounded justice, and Ash should never let anyone touch it.

If I didn't know better I'd swear Cope made this one herself.
>>149721515
I could maybe see myself enjoying something like that. I think some print only side stories could make for decent short films too, or a completely original side story. But even for those, I can't imagine anyone doing the characters and setting justice in the way Ashley does. I'm sure it's not impossible, there are a bunch of talented people out there, but Unsounded really is something special.

We've had regularly scheduled threads when the comic updates for over a decade, the regulars just don't look for an Unsounded thread otherwise. It might pick up at midnight when the new page drops but that might be in its own thread.

It might be dead in here but look at the numbers. I was just going through the old Kickstarters. The first one had a $9,800 goal and ended funded with $43,383, 1,275 people backed it. The second one had a $25,000 goal and ended with $74,007 from 1,678 people. And the last one had a $50,000 goal and ended funded with $73,365 across 1,656 people.

That's an average of $34 per person for book one, $44 for book two, and $44 again for book three. For this printing, we're sitting at $64,377 across only 928 backers so far, fully pledged with an excess of $24,377 before the first day is even over. That's an average of $69 per person. If we have a similar number of backers to the last two Kickstarters, Ashley can expect the Kickstarter to end with ~$113k. Given how fast this is filling I wouldn't be shocked if it's more because of the momentum creating more exposure. The fact there's a publisher with a potentially interested audience will help too. Just because people can't be bothered to post, or aren't on /co/ tonight, doesn't mean they aren't taking notice.
>>149723834
I'm guessing that between ~11:50 EST and tomorrow evening the Kickstarter jumps at least another $10-12k. And yeah, unless people have been reading the Patreon posts or signed up for the notification it's been pretty hush hush that the Kickstarter was launching today. There will definitely be more discussion in tonight's thread.
