This issue had a lot of visual noise, felt very chaotic. I did love that we just saw flashes of light while Supes did his thing, only revealing him halfway through the issue. That's the kind of thing Batman does very well, and it's working for edgelord Superman.

I disagree with that, sometimes seeing an artist develop through a run can be half the fun of reading it.
The Doug Moench/Bill Sienkiewicz Moon Knight is a good example of that.
I don't think Jahnoy Lindsay's art is very comparable to Henry Flint's art though, which Ewing compares him to for some reason, maybe in some attempt to hype up his co-creator.

I don't know, but there's allusions to Darkseid here. The Black Hand talks about god being a big black zero(like how the Martian calls Darkseid bad idea #0) and it tells Hal he needs to the Black Star inside of the circle.
Since the Black Hand is also from Abin Sur it looks to be some Darkseid mindfuckery Hal wil have to overcome or be consumed by and become the Black Star. Since the Black Hand is feeding off his fear, Abin Sur is could essentially be telling him to fall under its effects faster. He still has the green lantern brainwashed speech bubbles here after all, and Abin Sur seems like a title her, not the name of a person.

Caught up on all the Absolute stuff recently, overall enjoying it although most of the books had a rough start
Absolute Supes is suffering from the writer just not being that good, he wants to weave all this social commentary into the plot but he's not competent enough to do this in an engaging way, also it doesn't feel like he has much insightful to say beyond the obvious. When the comic is just being a basic sci fi action story it actually gets better as that's within the writer's abilities I guess.
Absolute GL is also getting better but hasn't found it's footing yet. Willing to give Jo a chance but so far she's pretty uninteresting compared to zesty uncle John and anime protagonist Hal

Absolute Superman has nothing insightful to offer because it delivers it in a boring, monotonous way. for its own sake rather than to enhance the theme or draw attention to anything unique about it

It's still incredibly unclear what's actually going on besides the surface level, immediate stuff. The fact that Abin-Sur "curses" Hal with the black hand as he dissolves into goop is not exactly obvious in its meaning. Why not just kill Hal? We can gather he's not actually been killing any one else, but if he's trying to lash out at Hal what's the point of this? Is he trying to turn him into another agent of something? The problems Hal's been having as the Black Hand are very different from what Abin-Sur was doing. Maybe he's, like, meant to just be a containment vessel?

Flash AF is just alright, there are worse Absolute books and there are better ones. I trust Lemire more than some of these other writers too, compare to GL and Supes which were spinning it's wheels for the first few issues and very slowly introducing characters and concepts, Flash had a bunch of characters introduced quickly and pretty effortlessly.
