Liberals like the Steven Universe crew are notoriously weak. Both mentally and physically. The whole show’s message was worshiping imperfections and weaknesses. The whole cast was a bunch of societal rejects who mostly just sit around and cry, the show even acknowledges this with crying breakfast friends. There’s no way these fags could topple a galactic empire and even if they asspulled a way to make them stronger it would go against the whole moral of imperfection. Instead they go with the ultimate liberal power fantasy; That if you cry hard enough and get lucky with nepotism the fascists will just give up and stop being meanies.

I don't see how they were 'redeemed' considering Steven clearly acts like he still doesn't like them, but if they're clearly emotional creatures why not manipulate them into not doing any more big evil genocides? What the fuck was Steven supposed to do, actively genocide a majority of the Gems back, start shattering left and right and try to lead an eternal self-replicating space empire by himself at the ripe age of like, 12 years old?

Interacting with the gems in his own house, or at least the big ass crybaby blue one, on top of everything he knows about his own mother (a diamond!) and her capacity to change... literally what else was he going to, or supposed to do here? He's now in a position where the Diamonds are, as far as everyone knows, not being evil genociders, are actively working to rebuild their nation into a more utopian society, and Earth isn't under active threat and is even rehabilitating gems.

There's things you can criticize this show for and some of them do relate to the plot, but the ultimate ending and Steven emotionally manipulating the overlords into being better people completely fits with what the rest of the show already told us about Gems. It literally takes him telling White Diamond to fuck off and actively showing her that he's more powerful than her for WD to actually give a fuck and change her ways. They couldn't even hold off steven-zilla with the three of them together. They changed both because they realize Steven could probably ice them all at full power, especially where he is in Future, *and* because they're clearly emotional creatures.

Jasper was honestly one of the peaks of SU Future bar none, Jasper had an actually interesting take on Gems reactions to Era 3 being instated. Called out Steven for being a pussy and managed to get some important emotional connection with him through combat and training. Even after she fucking DIES it just makes her respect him more because she finally gets it. In spite of him being a wishy washy meatbag he truly is a Diamond and finally showed the strength of one, she doesn't get scared or run away, she becomes loyal as she finally gets what she wanted.

The gems as a race were obsessed with perfection and aesthetics without really understanding art or emotions despite having emotions and the capacity to understand art. Pink Diamond was created to have an innocence they could all appreciate, it's like she was given more free will and their appreciation of her came from her validating their society, their expansionist project.

The tl;dr version of all that can be said about this is that gems are logical and beauty seeking but are also emotional and perfection seeking. Steven and the gems fusing these concepts win them over like how Peridot was won over. Peridot was a smaller version of this entire conflict and how it can be resolved, a smaller representation of the goals of the diamonds.
