I went back to Red's Friend Gets a Name Too to check Tom's comments and I feel genuinely gaslit. I could have sworn that we were told that they'd never see Red and Ayilu again. Either in Annie's narration or in the author's comments.
Am I crazy?

Calling Omega a god is such a gigantic stretch. And for what, for Kat to... Think about the concept? I assume for the first time? This is so sloppy.
And then Ayilu. I don't even know what happened there. Did she appear in front of them? Nearby them? Did they switch places?
What a weird page.

Wait YEAH!
Rey should also totally be aware that Kat is ACTUALLY a machine god. There is no way he doesn't know about Annie being nominated as her psychopomp. I don't remember if he was there, but she must have told him about it!

No, you're talking nonsense. The court didn't create her, they just harbored her, and they are not insulting her by calling her a god. And calling her a god is one of the biggest stretches in the comic, because she couldn't even DO anything.
Her only ability was to passively receive information.
You could call her an oracle, but even that is a stretch, because at least an oracle generally receives her information from the gods. An oracle is like an employee of the gods, just like the psychopomps are in this comic. Omega has no connection to godhood whatsoever.

I totally agree with you of course that Rey isn't a god, but he definitely had powers.
As a mythical creature, his tales made him come alive and Renard's tales describe him very much like Aesop's fables as a being embodying a concept. He is more than just a character, he is an aspect of the concept of the trickster, just like Coyote is. He wasn't described as having taken part in the creation of the world, like Coyote, but he still has powers, inherent to how he was depicted in his stories. He is supernaturally lucky, supernaturally convincing, can disguise himself as anyone, etc.

Well, at least in the original tales. Tom turned that into something else. The point of what I was saying kinda got away from me, there, but basically what I meant to say was that he wasn't just some random fox. He did have powers, though very ephemeral ones.

Why are you being so rude?
In real life I'd say the most important part of defining a god is a domain, some sort of charge that god has. God of the dead, god of trees, god of love, god of bugs, god of the plumbing on the second floor of the building down the street.
In this comic, the most important thing that would define a god seems to be mortal belief in that god. When a creature merges with the ether upon its death, whatever it believed to be its god will receive the responsibility of being its god.

Yeah I'm sticking to my guns now: Tom either saw some of the porn or saw how fucking horny his fans were getting for Annie on Annie action (or both) and it bothered him enough to write them out while using the "two Annies wouldn't work with the ending" thing as an excuse because he knew there'd be backlash after he expressly said they'd be sticking around. Tom's word is as good as nothing, the comic speaks for itself.
