Honestly this issue is a 6.5 or 7/10 for me I loved the beginning but the middle and the end felt off for me might change after a rereading of all the issues. Personal theory the end of this issue might be connected to incursion #3. I don't know how much of it is intentional, but I really like Peach's atmospheric visuals for Maester. Specifically the technology and facilities. The tech is very analog, and frankly quite messy. There are large tubes snaking around the floor, pipes covering the walls, and wires hanging slack from the ceiling. He stacks old box TVs on top of each other. Very little of his tech is enclosed in cases, stuff of the smartphone era is hardly seen at all. Lights are dim and the walls and floors are bare, very austere but for the mess of technological litter, like there's nothing to this person but his research. The analog tech is stuff you can reach out and touch, feel, smell, hear. It engages more senses than something like the holographic user interfaces the different variations of Tony Stark and Reed Richards are often shown with. And that's a very positive thing in a reading experience.

There should be a baseline sets of biologic enhancement you get from just having the x-genes, stuff like faster than average regeneration/healing, enhanced strength etc,at least now there would be a bit more of distinction between regular mutate and mutant even if some mutates can exhibit similar traits.

There's some weird fuckery going on with the Ultimate X-Men book. Several months ago the issue just cold opened on them all fighting Hisako in the astral plane, ending on a cliff hanger when a goofy cartoon ghost of Tsubasa showed up. Then the next few issues were doing other stuff and eventually looked like they were leading up to that issue of them fighting on the Astral plane, but then when we got there it was completely different. I'd have to check again to see if I missed anything, but perhaps we still haven't caught up to that fight we saw.

I like the use of color in this issue of UXM, most pages only have like two or three colors and it looks nice. I like this issue quite a bit overall.

Only thing I don't really like is how cartoony things look when the vibe is much more serious. Earlier in UXM characters would be drawn stylized but with a more realistic anatomy, and things would be more grounded visually when especially spooky shit was happening like the head stuck in the bike wheel. Lots of goofy cartoon faces when the girls are in the center of a dangerous cult with one of them being threatened with a knife, just feels like a bit of a mismatch.

Still overall like this issue and the visuals quite a lot, but I feel like the more exaggerated designs were a little out of place this issue.

UW was...fine. Beast deserved better.

Feel the same way. 7.5. Feel like it’s the weakest of the 3 endings for arc we got. I think finally having issues that are back to back spoiled me a bit so cutting to two weeks later left a sour taste. Also think that we should’ve seen Kageyama and Hisako fight. Didn’t even need to see conclusion but them actually fighting would’ve been nice. Also I don’t think we needed to see Maester again at the end. Judging from what we know about future issues and what Incursion seems to be about, it would’ve been better to finally introduce the players of the government. So have the last page been Silver Samurai, Viper and Sunfire talking about the uptick in mutant activity.

It seems like the next 3 issues might be focused in who’s the cover. So #19 will be about Nico, Natsu, Mori and Kanon. I can see what for Natsu and Mori (Natsu in COTA -> X-Men and Mori’s backstory) but for the rest unsure. #20 seems to show what happened with Kageyama and Hisako. And #21 we know that anti mutant legislation is being passed so that insinuates a response from Mei and her X-Men.
