I don't care if this is controversial, but they really need to just start over. Idgaf if it's some 'One More Day' bullshit they have to pull, but they gotta do it. It takes itself too seriously at this point. I get that might be controversial to many, but I'm being honest. I feel like I'm at a divorce hearing half the time I watch this show, ever since Late Season 2.

I think a reboot would be an awful choice, personally. Inanimate Insanity is 14 years old at this point, they would instantly alienate over half of their audience if they tried doing something like that.

To me, the main problem with it is how it flips between being a comedy and a drama across each scene, and not in a way that flows cohesively. The writing feels inconsistent. Some of the jokes land, like pic related, but that doesn't always make up for how quick of a mood whiplash the show likes to do.

Personally I think it's a problem with the pacing. When Season 2 was going through its transition from fast paced silly gag show to being more serious was probably when it was at its strongest, since the fast paced comedy gave it more time to quiet down for the serious moments. Now it's all just kinda going at the same constant speed throughout the whole episode and takes its time setting up "clever" jokes which, while entertaining, on their own just make it so that they run out of time for the more poignant moments and have to shift gears immediately.
Adam wants every episode to be like Kick the Bucket, but without that snappiness which made the mid-season episodes flow peacefully.

I'm not sure if the show is trying to portray Mephone as blameless. It doesn't seem like they're shying away from having characters actively hate him, with ones like Cammy being the exceptions of course. If anything, I've seen more discussion online about the show supposedly being "too hard" on Mephone, although I don't agree with that either.

I swear, Pencil pisses me off so much in TPOT. She's the most insufferable, obnoxious mothefucker in the entire show. All of the shit that happened to her was HER own fault, and she knows it. Freesmart breaking down, being in the E.X.I.T. It's her fault, all of it. She was being a dick to her team causing them to hate her, and she refused to leave the E.X.I.T when she got the chance because "MuH SpOnGy!!!". I'm talking about her as a character in the show, not in terms of how she is written. In terms of how she is written, she's clearly written well as she pisses me off, which is what I think they intended her to be at first. I'm talking about her in terms of personality. Think of my gripes with her similarly to how people hate Steve Cobs. They think the character is well-written, but in the show's context they're a fucking prick.

I mean I think TPOT Pencil is written well too but not in the sense that she's an asshole. Rather I like Pencil's struggle to come to terms with what she's been through. By BFDI writing standards, Pencil is a super well written example of a character with PTSD. Take Book saying that Pencil hasn't given her any space for example, that's a bold faced fucking lie since Book and Ice Cube have had nearly a solid 7 years without Pencil around, and yet people claim Pencil is in the wrong during this scene. Book is just a self-centered asshole akin to BFDIA Pin, just without the extreme violence. She doesn't give a flying fuck what Pencil and Match had been through, let alone the rest of the EXITors, but she gets a pass because Pencil saw an opportunity in Seasonal Shift and tried to take it knowing in her eyes that it was likely her only chance to get her friends back. Anyone with the mental state that Pencil had in this moment would've done the same.

Nice quads, but I just don't see it. Pencil to me shows herself to be a massive cunt. Sure you could say it's from deep distress over being trapped in the E.X.I.T for fuck knows how many years, but that was caused by HER actions. She had a chance far earlier on to escape, but didn't take it due to some petty reasoning. The shit she does in "Seasonal Shift" is colossally selfish as she quite literally almost doomed the world (or fell into One's trap) all because she couldn't accept that she fucked up in the past. Tbh, I'm pretty sure she could get all of them back (except perhaps Ice Cube) if she played her cards right and tempered it down with her inherently asinine personality. I don't see most of Freesmart being picky if you give them some magic show of quirks.

As for Book, while yeah she can be a bit of a jackass, at least she can get in line. Even with the whole Taco Tomfuckery she did in BFB, she eventually got her shit together for the most part by TPOT. Pencil on the other hand has had like 5 of those "pep-talks" and is still fucking over the timeline for some selfish desire she could probably achieve anyways without fucking over the timeline and giving One the power on a silver platter.

I'm gonna be honest, I took the scene of Pencil and Match refusing to leave through Spongy to be more of a joke than anything. After all since the very beginning they've shown that they hate him and frequently make fun of him, so it falls in line there at least.

Now that being said, I'm not defending Pencil's actions by any means, I'm just giving my insight on why she might do the things she does. I 100% agree that Pencil isn't exactly a good person, and yeah she did bring a lot of it on herself, but I still think Book and Ice Cube share fault in why she is the way she is now. Looking back at the scenes in the EXIT, Pencil very clearly misses the two of them dearly, shown via the doodles of them and the rest of the group on her desk. Pencil is shown to be fairly stable in the EXIT, scared and bored, sure, but still stable enough to rally everyone other than Roboty together and formulate an escape plan amidst an extremely stressful situation.

This is where we cut over to Category One, everything up through the team picking, Pencil is still okay-ish. She comes on strong to Book and Ice Cube sure, but again she hasn't seen them in nearly 7 years. Yet instead of telling her that they'd rather not be in a cross-team alliance, but would like to be friends, Ice Cube drags book away while Price Tag taunts Pencil and this is what sets her off into spiraling out of control. Combine this with her PTSD from Four that's now starting to really hit her now that she's escaped, and it breaks her. I fully believe that if Book and Ice Cube got off their fucking high horses and at least tried to talk to Pencil, then the mayhem she's caused could've been avoided. Gaty would still be here since she wouldn't have to sign One's contract to fix the rift, and as such Two wouldn't be bed-rotting so he could actually get off his ass and help with the One situation.

What I'm going to assume they're going to double down in IDFB is show how she became so shitty that they'll give the reason as to why they won't do that, otherwise it makes no sense they'd be like that.

True but the difference is that Two would be able to help since Gaty is still around. From what we've seen so far, One doesn't seem to be capable of erasing people who don't sign her contracts, and if the rift isn't getting out of control due to Pencil and Pillow causing Leafy to get into Dream Island, then there's no contract for Gaty to sign. Sure we saw One make the rift do some crazy shit in TPOT 19, but nothing close to the world-ending level it was at back in TPOT 15, and this makes sense since she straight up says to Basketball

characters inside an elimination area are straight up not allowed to change or develop in the sense that they can't get screentime aside from the very specific ones in BFDIA due to how much the rules of the game in there were being changed all the time, and without outside interaction eliminated contestants can't be different either, down to a meta point that ones in TLC couldn't even change their designs to their modern ones without the enhancement laser from the ones outside

Yeah but the EXIT is a clear exception from this, as even though it was primarily restricted to ending stingers until Out of the Blue, the scenes we did get show a little bit of growth. Comparing BFB 1 Pencil to TPOT 11 Pencil is like night and day. Where Pencil would sit behind and make people do shit for her like having Lightning zap Spongy and Flower, now she takes an active role leading the otherwise disjointed group of EXITors. Hell she was even willing to do the selfless act of checking on Roboty for David's sake, even knowing the danger since Four was in the room.

I believe Pencil’s tantrum arc was originally intended for Match. A person who is actively ignoring her “best friend” wouldn’t be whining about her friend group being ruined and sucking up to her enemies. It makes more sense that this arc was meant for Match than Pencil.

There's this huge kerfuffle going on about the Yoylite and it's power over the timelines and whatnot during the interaction between One and Donut in TPOT 19 right? Why the hell doesn't anyone go to the fucking Yoylite Mine that was shown in BFDIA 17 and get some more, there's an entire minecart filled with it contrary to Tennis Ball's claims in BFDIA 7 about it being one of the rarest materials in the universe.
