How they handled Bill was a little frustrating. I thought the jokes around how pathetic he is were entertaining and funny but it's just the same old Bill as before, now flanderized. In the first episode with him being a morbidly obese recluse they could've done a whole lot more, maybe had an arc with him trying to pull himself back together, but it gets completely offscreened.

I was retarded and hoped that the time away from the show would've had Mike want to get things back on track and make the characters likeable again. Mainly I was hoping for something actually surprising where Peggy mellowed out in her old age and they were treating it as a way to sort of write off her worst episodes like they were going to do with the wedding finale version and the episodes they didn't like then.

We could've had Bill get back into shape and hit some new stride after hitting his lowest point without Hank and anyone even bothering to check on him for literal years. Nope, just that awful shit and then back to the usual flanderized shit. There was really no ambition to make you like any of these characters or do a good future for anybody. They all just got worse.

She was in middle school in the OG run, we do not know what happened to her in HS, which is when people start branching out and being rebellious with their parents. Chances are she had a major blow out with her parents and got sick of that shit. I've only watched the first episode so far (not trying to draw it out, I just have either OCD or a shit attention span so it takes me longer than it should to watch things sometimes) but liked it more than I expected. Pretty funny honestly, and even certain shit I'd complained about before the premiere like Bobby keeping the same voice worked better than I thought since the VA did change it a little.

Peggy's voice sounded old as fuck in like her first few lines but then somehow got better within the episode itself. Dale's voice is weird but in a way that's forgivable due to the RL circumstances. I noticed, like, one or two moments where he actually managed to slip into the OG Dale delivery style and it felt uncanny by comparison because so much of his performance in these episodes is completely different.

I'm not a fan of aging the kids like 8 years but GH being a teenager, though I didn't watch the Cucked Basedboy episode yet. People are already busting out kind of disingenuous arguments like "oh so it was fine to have like a million Christmas episodes but not to age GH up?" but at least in the old show everyone didn't age relative to each other. I think they could've easily made Bobby like ~25 instead and that'd fit a little better with the RL timeline too, like if Hank and Peggy were gone for 10 years instead.

I don't like the recasting of characters, though I haven't gotten to the Joseph and Kahn appearances. Already heard Kahn's voice though and know it'll sound bad

Overall it seems pretty good even though part of me really wanted it to suck

I used to work with a very sweet 16 year old girl who was very much an over achiever with helicopter parents, and she remained like this for two years.

Last I heard she was a lunch lady now in a middle school and dropped out of college.

I know it's one anecdotal story, but I've seen enough stories to know it's not a wholly uncommon thing to happen to girls who grew up like Connie did.
Overprotective, overinvolved helicopter parents demanding perfection are just as damaging to a child's mind as absentee abusive parents.

I said this before, Connie is the Luanne of this revival/reboot/whatever but worse. There's almost nothing interesting going on about Connie and the few bits she has are bland. Her lashout at Chane is also retarded because they are both pretending to please their parents. As much as she tells hers it's casual she still does it to keep them happy.
At least Luanne had agency and the writers had some fun ideas even if they later scrapped or pulled back on them.

I think I only chuckled once in all 10 episodes and I don't even remember the joke now. There was just minimal sincere attempts at real humor and when you only shoot for like a couple there's a high chance they all miss. Another quick thought: I don't like the recasting of Joseph on principle but what little I've heard of the new VA does sound pretty decent. Like it's a mixture between sounding like Breckin Meyer's performance and sounding like John Redcorn, like you can just instantly tell that's what they're going for with the voice and it's pretty impressive he pulled that off even though I don't think a recast was necessary.

But I also dislike the push to make him so much like Redcorn in demeanor that they seem to be doing this season. I think just the Jonathan Joss bullshit has made me tired of John Redcorn in general, but also it feels like kind of a middle finger to Dale in a way. Like yeah Joseph's entire existence is an affair joke but also before it felt more like he had his own character based on Dale raising him

I haven’t finished the season yet so there might be things I don’t know, but the beer competition episode alone has Joseph basically being a mini Dale. I feel like so far he seems to have taken much more after him than John Redcorn.

Just binged it. It was alright. It's trying way too hard to give modern political commentary and it's cringe af. Especially the GH episode with the Andrew Tate/masculinity camp expies, I had to take breaks to get through that one. Besides that the episodes got better as it went on. I'm fine with how most of the cast is turning out besides Connie and Dale. Dale has no inflection in his voice at all and sounds like a bot, and Connie made so much of a 180 on her values that it's jarring. I guess you could make the case that it's actually what was forced on her by her parents and this is how she would have wanted to act but it's just bizarre seeing her be an unabashed slut in a relationship with a guy she never showed anything but disdain towards.

First episode was the worst of the season for me. You get a better idea of why Bobby is putting up with it. Chane is an idiot who is a stereotypical rich frat boy. His dad is the one funding the operation because he thinks it will help Chane with his business degree. They mostly let Bobby run the restaurant how he wants because Chane has 0 interest so long as its succesful. Bobby has a small ownership stake in it so if the business is succesful he gets a cut of that.
