Marvel sold *some* of the X-Men rights to FOX and FOX sued Marvel over this show in 2001 (the year after the first X-Men movie came out), and subsequently settled (Mutant-X was long off the air by then anyway); most of the arguments were about use of language and trademarks and for the most part pretty unlikely to succeed

Marvel's Avi Arad tried to pull a fast one on Fox and Tribune (the producers of the show) by selling Tribune an X-Men tv show, Fox sued and the show was scrubbed of it's glaring similarities to the movie.
The Mutants were created in a lab, and have 4 types of powers
The team couldn't have codenamed.
The team couldn't wear leather jumpsuits
The leader Adam X lost his psychic powers was just the guy who created the Mutants.
They were no longer fighting for Mutant equality but the fighting against an evil corporation who wanted the mutants back.
Tribune later canceled the show because it was expensive and they felt jipped they weren't getting a real X-Men show.
