They didn't commit to it in the right ways. They should've lead with a cartoon show akin to TCW and Rebels instead of comics to draw in a wider, more mainstream audience.

You want a modern example look at Assassins Creed long running gaming franchsie and look at its fandom NOW. They are distancing themselves from the brand as they are indifferent now after many shoddy sequels. You can't make low quality media for too long as eventually the damage runs deep. Star Wars will never climb back to prominence.

You can kill every single piece of shit who collaborated to ruin it and it won't get rid of the scars. Many old fans don't give a damn. And young people? They see Star Wars as old shit their grandparents used to like. Just shit for old people.
