I'll admit that I haven't actually seen THAT much of Justice League but including her as part of the main cast was a weird choice. Like I get they didn't want Diana to be the only woman but she's pretty much the exact same character archetype anyway. Why not Black Canary or Zatanna?

Too weak compared to the rest of the cast (yes I realize Batman is right there but at least Batman has a tech empire to back them up / detective skills, Dinah would just be the weakest fighter with a sonic shout that never works) and you just can't include Black Canary without also bringing in Green Arrow and the main cast was big enough as is. I know you can also make the argument you couldn't have Shayera without Katar but the difference is that GA/BC are different enough in their aesthetics and powersets it'd be a crime to have one but not the other, whereas Hawkman/Hawkgirl are identical in all but gender

Too strong compared to the rest of the cast, can't think of many situations where her reality altering magic wouldn't just solve everything by speaking backwards. Also very visually similar to Diana (black-haired babes in leotards) so she wouldn't stand out visually.

Hawkgirl was about the only other reasonable choice they had if they really wanted another girl on the team - she's stronger than normal and can fly but isn't THAT strong and Hawks have a legacy with the League

>Versatile powerset, as strong or tough or fast as the plot demands but she has to activate individual powers so she can get speedblitzed or knocked out if necessary
>Powers are mystical in nature but not actual magic so she's connected to Gods and shit without being overpowered

She was so underused in the film that I started thinking about the bizarre lore of these characters. Like, aren't they white people who are actually reincarnations of ancient Egyptians? It's one of those “WE WUZ EGYPTIAN ON SHEET” things that was really popular until the first half of the 20th century. The movie nods to her bizarre lore in her bedroom scene. The actress is pretty, but the character isn't interesting.

The DCAU was such a horrible adaptation of Hawk lore, and for what? So they could ship her with John Stewart? It fucking sucked.

Hawkman used to be a pretty solid 8th member of the main core JLA until the 90s. It's not a huge stretch to switch over to Hawkgirl when they need another girl around. She is slightly more relevant as a hero than using Mera as a stand in for Aquaman.

I don't care about your opinion Hawk lore, I know general opinion is mostly negative partly because they don't bother to read Hawk comics but that happens with most characters but it is objectively a horrible adaptation for Shayera, Thanagar, Hawkman, and the reincarnation cycle.
