I started watching S5 and now I think the lorefaggotry didn't come from Muto, but from the fans of the series. They kind of don't take the lore seriously in general. It's almost like the ships, they are mostly irrelevant to the plot. It's almost like HP fans take the plot of those books more seriously than Rowling does.

Originally, it was because of circumstance out of Finn and Jake's control. In episodes like When Wedding Bells Thaw, Still, and The Eyes, Finn and Jake reluctantly hang out with Ice King because he shows up out of nowhere. Finn also describes Ice King in one early episode as a "lesser villain". Finn and Jake don't think highly of him and consider him an annoyance more than anything. After I Remember You and Simon and Marcy, Finn and Jake tend to be less antagonistic to Ice King. Once they know that Marcy and him have history together, they start to back off.

Ice King transitions from a comedic reoccurring villain into a more friendly and misunderstood character. This all started back in Holly Jolly Secrets when we learned his backstory. Episodes involving him don't focus on his princess obsession after Princess Monster Wife and instead on his other character traits and history. He starts to interact with the rest of the cast in a more friendly way. Even Princess Bubblegum gives him a chance in Broke His Crown. At the end of the original series Ice King is a weird, out of touch, and insane but well meaning old man. He's still the same character, just better understood and viewed in a more positive light because of it.

And yet the only thing that people remember about those terrible seasons are the hilariously badly romance arcs, the shitty daddy issues spam ad nauseam, boring emmybaits, bubblegum being even more of evil mary sue bitch and how to forget that terrible episode episode Breezy which is essentially a middle finger to anyone which cared about continuity up to that point just because some manchildren in the writers' room thought it was a brilliant idea to project his incel relationship experiences into the show, guess that's the magical cure for depression lmao!

We as people only remember the best and worst parts of the past and if they only point out that it means that the rest of the episodes were either mediocre or boring or just not good enough to make up for all those low quality episodes despite being the majority of the show as you claim

Finn and Jake's job was to stop the Ice King from whatever evil schemes he was planning to do. Sometimes this meant punching him in the face, sometimes this meant going along with whatever bullshit he came up with because he couldn't kidnap princesses if he was too busy doing some nonsense.
