Bob Iger Says ‘Creating New IP’ is No ‘Priority’ Among Sequels, Remakes and Originals
>“We continue to be focused on creating new IP,” Iger said. “Obviously, that’s of great value to us long term. But we also know that the popularity of our older IP remains significant, and the opportunities to either produce sequels or convert what was previously animation to live action, like we’re doing with ‘Moana’ in 2026, it’s just a great opportunity for the company and supports our franchise. So I wouldn’t say that we’ve got a priority one way or the other. Our priority is to put out great movies that ultimately resonate with consumers.”

>“The more we can find and develop original property, the better,” Iger continued. “Of course, we are developing original property under the 20th Century banner and under the Searchlight banner. And look, you could even argue that Marvel continues to mine its library of characters for original property. Even though, for instance, there have been Fantastic Four movies before, we kind of consider the one we did an original property in many respects, because we’re introducing those characters to people who are not familiar with them at all.”

Don't include the original context if you're going to take things out of it for engagement, bro. That's shitposting 101.

of course it’s not. why would Disney do anything that threatens their monopoly?
everyone knows who Spider-Man is and will buy Spider-Man shit regardless of what it is. it doesn’t serve them at all to invest in new IP that won’t sell as well. for what purpose?

He openly says they're counting the umpteenth version of the Fantastic Four as "an original" because most people don't know who they are.

I'm torn between admiring and hating his ability to make words do whatever he wants.

Also I wonder if that's a passive-aggressive way of explaining away why the film isn't doing as well as they hoped: it's an ORIGINAL, you see, and the characters (who have been adapted to two other movie franchises in just this century) might as well be new characters and therefore when you look at it his way, they took a pretty big risk making this movie!

I guarantee when they announce that Oswald show they have been filming they will say it is a new IP original since he hasn't had a series since the 1920s

What monopoly? Disney may be doing alright now but they got a few problems. They will run out of live action remake bait.

The second problem is other companies are rivaling them most notable Nintendo because Nintendo is doing what Disney does and then some. Nintendo is a family brand who has a theme park, does animated movies and even bought a recent animation studio to make their own homegrown films. And finally Nintendo makes their own video games that are globally iconic. What does Disney have gaming wise? Kingdom Hearts? Don't make me laugh.

Disney is a rotting empire that's decaying until collapse. And Marvel and Lucasfilm have becom e damaged brands. I don't even think Marvel Souls fighting game is going to help much either.

Disney is not doing as great as they would have you believe. And I suspect Iger wants to finish his term before the house of mouse burns.

I don't know I think my argument is that the Marvel brand is not what it used to be. Even if you use Capcom's characters I'm not seeing a theoretical Marvel vs Capcom 4 being a stellar hit.
