Marvel has already gone the "total standalone" route. Mentions of other events happening is mere lip service. Shared universe only exists for editorial-mandated events. It's becoming more and more writer-oriented every day.

DC is gonna go that route anytime soon. They are always like 5-7 years behind Marvel in trends.
