I wouldn’t say the right is how he normally draws now a days on a day to day basis but that it’s just something he did for teh lulz in all honesty. It’s like Picasso (other side of the freaky Deaky pervert coin) where he’s pushing himself to do weirder and more abstract stuff. Like the one trap guy of the arts.

I feel like even in his hayday John K wasn’t the best Spumco artist, he wasn’t a bad artist or anything, I just much prefer the art of Jim Smith, Chris Reccardi, and Bob Camp

Their absence contributed to why APC looked the way it did. It was definitely more true to the spirit of the OG than the reboot, but there were a lot of fuck ugly, awkward drawings that were just off model for the sake of being off model that had none of the charm that they brought to the table.

Honestly IMO Adult Party Cartoons style is kinda overhated, sure I prefer the UPA-like classic toon influenced style of the original, but APC’s more organic style is more in-line with Nick Cross’s art that seems pretty prominent in APC, which I do kinda dig

Not really, it’s just that wacky cartoonists can’t find work in our current industry anywhere else besides NuBob so they have no choice but to work on beanshit. There was a Twitter thread where Nick Cross went into detail that when he animated for Tig N’ Seek he had to follow unnecessarily strict ass model sheet rules for animating one beanmouth character.

He has worked on The Day the Earth Blew Up and a couple of short animations

I remember a Simpsons animator talking about how he did some scenes and moments for the new HD intro. His gallery was full of gorgeous drawings and he was a good animator but every time he did something they had to tell him to tone it down and make it less good. That still lives rentfree in my head to this day, it was so depressing.

John always went on about how drawings need appeal and how other principles like squash and stretch aren't as important. I actually agreed with him, and I think appeal is what's missing from his current work. It's so fucking wacky and overly exaggerated to be unappealing. His old work was still wacky and exaggerated but not something I hated looking at, he still made appealing and fun drawings but Cans without Labels' animation is terrible. It's got terrible staging and is often unreadable, the animation feels weightless and even the frames by themselves are no fun to look at.

John K is so resentful of industry art styles that he willfully made his art as strange and defiant as possible to those styles, but because he’s fixated on the industry, his work is just a schizophrenic disrespect of them, instead of being reasonably based in its own independent style.
