Why are people saying too much happens in this movie, or that it’s crammed? I didn’t have much difficulty understanding it.

After almost 20 years of non-stop superhero flicks, audiences are expecting certain beats from them: thing is introduced, two beats later it’s used. This reminded me of a Oceans 11 type of film.

it’s not about the plot devices. the dialogue itself is way too crammed. there’s so much expositional shit in the beginning, and then the Luthor-espionage arc where Lois is discovering the conspiracy barely makes any sense (or maybe it didn’t get enough screen time, idk).
there’s also no satisfaction gained from watching it because Luthor reveals he didn’t care about Netanyutin or the Chechnestinians at all. also the conflicting themes about Superman’s anti-interventionism is never seriously addressed, and it switches to being a story about “humanity” after Luthor gives a bunch more expositional Shakespearean-play-ass dialogue about his real motivations. the whole side-plot with Lois and the Daily Planet was a waste, honestly.

the basic plot points weren't difficult to understand but it was overstuffed - you don't need BOTH a clone of this Superman (even if you wanted to save that fact as a third act twist) and the Engineer, much less the kaiju D plot weren't really necessary - especially when the film makes it appear like many hours took place between that kaiju being dropped off at night, the first reports of it in the morning, the fight with it in - at least - middle or late afternoon, and Lex going to the Fortress, getting the footage and allegedly having it verified, and then getting back to do an interview and release it.
And that's just one example.

The problem isn't that it's hard to understand, it's that the moments never linger long enough to actually be felt.
