Cullen had an interesting career where he was down to just voicing Eeyore and Toonami promos, a few one-off gigs, and had really not voiced Optimus in like 15 years, and really only commercials after 87. Basically soft retired
Then the 07 movie happened and he’s big in demand again and voiced the character for longer than he did in the 80s. I miss him as Optimus but him returning was an unexpected gift if anything

When Frank Welker dies only Corey Burton will be left of the original four main decepticons if he doesn't die before welker does Chris Latta kicked the bucket 30 years ago.

Jesus fucking Christ, Dan Gilvezan (Bumblebee) and Sue Blu (Arcee) are both over 70. The youngest living actor (David mendenhall or however his name is spelled) is fucking 53.

We lost Morgan Lofting last year, I can't fucking do this man

Sue Blue was also responsible for the voice acting in beast Wars and Prime’s first season( possibly casting?) which is a big feat considering they’re two of the best acted series in the franchise

He was also an alcoholic who once had to once get bailed out of jail by producers to get to a Transformers/GI Joe recording session on time.

That's actually way more lucrative than cartoons and shit. Blum's said before that he makes more doing voiceovers for commercials than he does for animation.

When they did the 40th anniversary video with him and Welker he didn't seem right, I hate to say it but I wonder if he's losing it, he was trying to tell a story and Welker was giving him that look you see between very old friends where you can tell he notices something isn't right anymore

I mean as far as voicing Optimus, it wasn't too many commercials, it was just a handful of post G1 toon shorts for reairing and some later things like this G2 toy commercial
https://youtu.be/s3XR-WktyOA?si=UtnRrpp6nSNDEX9T
He was at that point still on call as the Optimus voice, but since they didn't dub the anime series(not that Optimus is in much past Headmasters where he died again) he didn't get a chance to voice Optimus again. Beast Wars and the 2000's anime(besides RiD) were dubbed in Canada. That G2 commercial in 93/94 was his last Optimus voice role until 2007.

Welker is surprisingly very good for his age, his voice for Fred is still good.

Cullen sounded old already when he did the first Bayformers and the last stuff he did was very apparent that he was old.

He was already 60 something then. That being said he still sounded ok in Bayformers. Not as youthful as in G1 but it was a different take on the character anyway. He also sounded ok in TF Prime. But yeah now he just sounds really really old, which he is. Welker is a weird anomaly, he still has his young man Fred voice well into his older years. Welker worked alot more than Cullen, who was basically not doing regular roles for most of the 90s and into the early 00s until Bayformers made him work regularly as Optimus again.

I hope not. The performance is more than just the sound, it needs the emoting, and
The kid they got voicing Optimus in the netflix and Cyberverse shows, Jake Foushee, is basically human AI. He can get the voice sort of right but cannot emote well.

That's probably one of the most truly classic Optimus moments we've gotten since the G1 cartoon. I miss shit talking Season 1/2 Optimus. More John Wayne in his voice too.
