Martine. A series of books that started in the 1950s, I think, and continued for decades.
Created by Marcel Marlier and Gilbert Delahaye, the art is known for being downright magnificent.
The cartoon looks stiff and shitty. Nothing like the books.

I don't know if the books are even in English.
The cartoon can be seen on YouTube, but also in French for what I could find.

If you squint, you can see what they were going for. The colors are trying to emulate the books, and some of the backgrounds are almost there.
But it doesn't work because the animation itself is incredibly stiff and not expressive.
