Rom. I finished the first Romnibus and started on the second. I'd already seen on /co/ the story with Galactus, but it was still an interesting showing when Rom managed to trick him.
Now I've seen Rom help push Rogue away from villainy, another thing people on /co/ talked about but that feels very different when I'm reading it in the context of the story. Rom is surprisingly good.
Also Hybrid is creepier than I would've expected from a comic from this era, he's openly talking about forcing all these women to give birth to his offspring and somehow the CCA or Marvel editorial didn't have a problem with it?
I recommend Rom.

Newest Marvel book from Abrams Marvel Arts line of original graphic novels intended for the book market after Alex Ross's Fantastic Four: Full Circle and The Super Hero's Journey. This one's written by Chip Kidd and drawn by Michael Cho. Nice to see Cho doing interiors again since all he seems to do lately are DC Golden Age Omnibus covers and style guides.

ST v1 #1-14 (the Lein/Wrightson run) is well loved but a bit generic and lacks focus plotwise. Avoid the second half of the run like the plague.

The Plasko run is underrated and the last 4-5 issues are pretty crucial to understand the Moore run.

Veitch has his moments but between the forced Hellblazer crossover stuff and the BS time travel arc, it's skippable.

Doug Wheeler does a decent job wrapping up the Veitch storylines in acceptable fashion and finalizes Arcane's transformation into a demon. But the lengthy fungus war arc is where a lot of hate for Wheeler comes from.

Nancy Collins's run is underrated and worth buying as it's basically the Moore run but more mainstream friendly. Sadly the ending is super depressing due to editorial demanding Abby/ST break up so Grant Morrison/Mark Millar could do a more horror themed run.

Morrison/Millar's run is blah. It's highly serialized and has a lot of edgelord shit in it that makes it groanworthy. And that's not counting the ghostwriting rumors. Still, it's the last good ST run and everything after that is dogshit.

Thanks. I adore Nancy so I just had to get at least one collection of the strips, and I hope to get more in the future, and I've always been curious about KLH so I decided to buy and check it out (pretty solid story). I remember reading Bone and The Mask at a friends house years, so I really want to get those at some point. I was a little annoyed that the comics in the Nancy collection were out of order in terms of date, with a lot of them organized based on subject matter, but I honestly don't mind. I just feels great to have Nancy around with me in person

I'd say yes, start with Echo, then Strangers in Paradise. I did also like Rachel Rising and it's Serial spin-off, but I recognise I'm probably a bit biased. I'd save them for after though.

Just be aware that Strangers in Paradise starts out seeming like a slice of life type story, but does turn into a drama about organised crime. I really liked it.

V2 ends with Freddy and Casey marrying in Hawaii.

The crime shit is introduced in V2 and I Dream of You (V2 1-9). In general the book alternated between romantic drama and crime stuff every other arc.

I sadly never read the twelve part 25th anniversary series because from what I've heard, it's pretty much a full on John Clancy story with Katchoo as Jack Ryan fighting a renegade Parker Girl turned terrorist who wants to unleash a bio weapon onto the world.

It was pretty decent. Tomasi's Superman was all about Clark and Jon and father/son hijinks, while Jurgan's Action was a more traditional Superman book with Lex and the Daily Planet. Sadly, there is a bunch of issues spent smoothing over the restoration of the Post-Crisis Superman lore and the ending is a huge nothing burger due to the Oz/Jor-El storyline having zero ending and Action Comics #1000's main story basically being a shoot the shaggy dog story where a mystery man in a suit of armor tries to kill Clark only for him to turn out to be a time traveling and terminally ill Lex Luthor, who dies in Superman's arms, effectively ending the run with the downer note of Superman knowing Lex's redemption won't last (and Superman hiding the identity of the guy in the suit from present day Lex).

EC Comics has long been the domain of wealthy boomer nerds who can afford paying half a grand and up for a single back issue. The slipcase HCs were made for whales who had big bucks but couldn't afford or have access to anyone selling old EC Comics and even then, the fuckers were in black and white; it wouldn't be until the early 90s that affordable color reprints were available let alone at decent prices.

That said, why did you fucking blind buy the set? Or did you fall for the hype of how the Picto-Fiction books are among the rarest of the rare EC Comics, outside the 3-D specials?

I got all of the TPBs for cheap between, but obviously they never finished the run. So after I read those and really liked it, I bought a whole run of floppies from a LCS for a decent price, and thought maybe I'd custom bind it. Not too long after, they announced the compendium.
I've been waiting to see if vol. 2 ever came out, and not just solicited, but actually FUCKING released, so now it looks like I'm going to have to dump the floppies and finally get those two books.

Well, how else could they do it?
>print Triangle Era Vols 1 + 2, picking up the post-Return comics as Triangle Era Vol 3, and let the pre-existing Death & Return Omnibus fill the gap even though its not numbered and means Vols 2 and 3 aren't actually concurrent
>print Triangle Era Vols 1 + 2, followed by Death & Return, and come up with a new collection name for the post-Return comics (thus losing the fan-favourite 'Triangle Era' branding)
>line up Vol 2 with Death & Return and reprint D&R as Triangle Era Vol 3, a la Captain America by Jack Kirby
I think the way they've done it is probably the one which makes the best sense given the situation. Obviously it sucks for Superman fans who already have the Death & Return and want to collect the Triangle Era, but sadly them's the breaks.

They could just have sub titles.
Superman Triangle Era: Post Death.
Superman Triangle Era: Some significant story in this era.
Or, and perhaps more simply. Superman Triangle 1994-1995 and then the following years.

>this is all that and a bit more
This is kind of frustrating me with this line, though. They seem to step on the toes of some of their omnis -- even ones that were recently released. I was comparing the Spectre volume with the omni, and it looks like either format has two issues the other doesn't, which is kind of annoying. But they did this shit with some of the older lines, too, like the Bronze Age Swamp Thing omni missing a couple of Challengers issues, I think, compared to the paperbacks.

What I like about Finests and Epics over omnis is that on the whole they seem a lot more focused on collecting entire runs. Omnis cover a lot of that too but there's too many that are just creator focused or event focused and that can result in some that are kind of all over the place mapping wise.

Many omnis do these days. I have a pretty strict 1000 page limit, and even then I'd really prefer hardcovers that are half that size, but I'll happily buy these 500-700 page paperbacks. I just hate having to compare mapping and the uncertainty of more of those smaller volumes coming out to finish the material one omni covers.

So at present, what really are the most collected series? Because outside of a few trades that are frankly insultingly over priced, Fantastic Four seems to be collected in it's entirety to the best I can find. Avengers has like ONE epic due next year and then one or two blank spots. Cap has one or two gaps and X-men is... god knows. I think Amazing Spider-man is decently collected too but the satellite books are a shit show.

It's mostly just a naming convention. For a while they were called "Oversized Hardcover", but nowadays Marvel prefers "Premium Hardcover" and DC calls them "Deluxe Edition". What they have all in common is the bigger dimensions compared to a regular SC or HC (same size as an Omnibus) but less pages than an Omnibus, making them more readable in your hand compared to an Omnibus.
The names are all kind of interchangeable though
